Larry,
Do you think we will need alot of changes between now and beginning of December to realistically get excited about winter or is it too early still to know?
Big changes and perhaps divine intervention

We certainly have seen a shift to a predominantly -pna/+nao look during the transition seasons and winter. Thankfully the ridge over AK can be oriented in certain ways that it can provide cold for us even in the the face of an otherwise meh background setup. I'm not sure if this just a multi year thing or a climate thing but chances are it'll flip at some point.Patience, we have been on a streak of AN falls, the last BN fall I remember was in 2009. Maybe this is a new norm and we should just accept it. No coincidence that we are on a streak of AN winters.

Yeah, I'd give 100 something like a 10% chance....so not out of the realm of possibilities. That would make it the latest 100 by 8 days going back to 1879!!
As it is, I think 98+ is about a 2 in 3 chance as of now. 99+ is maybe a 1 in 3 chance. I can't believe we're talking about temps like this on 9/17 in Atlanta!
Yep it’s so dry there’s even pop up showers currently from upstate Greenville to Charlotte.Yep, drought begets drought! The least amount of precip, is over the current driest spots!
Outflow boundaries , smell like fallAh yes the ol miss on both sides.![]()

The GFS isn't any better. Has above normal temps dominating the SE (and eastern seaboard) into the first days of October.Yeah, the end of the 00z EURO is pretty tragic.
Whoever said we were done with the 95*F+ temps might have also jinxed everything.
We’ve often seen the ridge get beaten back so much of the south gets relief except GA and FL. At least we are suffering together. At the end of the GFS we are looking at overnight lows in the 70’s in NYC. That’s got to be a record for early October.

We need to really enjoy these next few days (..then it's back to heat).
GFS is better in that it keeps the ridge flatter for longer.

The hot nights will really hurts. We're all used to warm days popping up all the way through October, but the nights are usually not bad.Maybe but verbatim we are 90+ for 7 days with no rain. Oh and overnight lows in the mid to upper 70’s. More records to break.

Mid to Upper 70s for lows ? Once we get into October those are our average highs !Maybe but verbatim we are 90+ for 7 days with no rain. Oh and overnight lows in the mid to upper 70’s. More records to break.

Bathtub has got to slosh! I’m sure Europe and Asia are well below normal now!
Sure that will even be kicked back further ...10/10 at the earliest

It certainly could be. GWO looks pretty unfavorable for anything but more ridging for the foreseeable future.Sure that will even be kicked back further ...
At least last year when we were complaining about the heat, we also were complaining about flooding and too much rain.Rainfall deficits across the SE are definitely getting serious (I know y'all don't need to see this map to know that Lol)
