Been lurking in this thread, and I have some things to say:

1. For everyone bashing democrats for the failure of the stimulus bill - Yes, democrats are being incredibly stupid and this will probably hurt them come election time. You have to put some blame on the GOP as well. They want to bail out certain companies/sectors. This is corporate welfare/socialism. You ask any republican if they support corporate welfare or socialism and they will say no way. Only when it benefits them. I get this is a southern, and thus mostly right-leaning, forum I expect people to disagree.

As a libertarian, I feel this is a good time to let the free market decide what's going to happen. If someone, say an airline, fails without a bailout, so be it. Spending all your profits to buy back stock is irresponsible when having cash on hand has been proven to get companies through a crisis. Look at Apple, they have ~$200 BILLION of cash on hand. They will not be needing a bailout for a very long time, if ever. I'll probably be flamed for this statement, but this is what I believe in. If you don't believe it, compose a civil counter-argument and let's discuss.

2. Gov. Kemp is a damn moron and is unfit for office. Let's lock things down for a couple weeks. The county government here has taken extra steps beyond and we only have 7 cases confirmed in a county of 220,000+. Considering our proximity to ATL metro (some say we are ATL metro), this is encouraging. This is just one in a series of bonehead decisions Kemp has made since becoming governor. Everyone saw this coming and elected him anyway, because democrats are the devil here.

3. The personal attacks are sad to see. I've only been here for 6 months or so, and I've seen nothing but cooperation and good-natured discussion until the virus hit. I understand there is some level of panic and uncertainty, but people are allowed to have an opinion, whether you agree with it or not. If you don't, keep to yourself. If you do, encourage a civil conversation.

Regardless of your personal, political, or educational status in life, putting others down for being 'not as smart as me' or 'taking this event too lackadaisically' is never a good solution. As we say in IT, stop and read what you wrote before hitting Post reply. You may realize you come off like a jerk. If you don't, well I feel sorry for you.

And if we do that where do you see America? Saved lives no doubt. Economy wise? Just fine? No increase in homelessness and poverty? I am asking no as a smart ass. I am asking to sale me on that we will be ok if America does this. That my family will not be hungry or homeless.

Yeah because keeping the stock market and big business afloat at the expense of American lives is the solution here. Anyone who like Trump, thinks we'll be going back to normal in 2 weeks needs to get their head checked.

Kemp literally sounds like an uneducated hillbilly moron... like his parents are related stupid. My brain hurts every time I listen to him speak. How he became the Governor of this state just shows how bad the other candidate was. (sounds familiar)

As I stated, I am neither a democrat or republican, although of course I lean certain ways on different issues. I really think Abrams would have done a good job, at least far better than Kemp has.
 
I'd like to add, I'd like to see Senator's terms changed to 4 years and term limited at 8. Representatives should be term limited at 8 years as well, continuing their 2 year terms. This would at least curtail the good old boys club and cronyism at its highest levels and hopefully inject a much needed change into Congress. Nothing is getting done with the Congress we have now, or really any Congress in the past 30 years.

I dont live in Georgia but this is just something to think about. How many on herebashing the man have ever had the responsibilty of human life and liveleyhood put on your shoulders? My solid guess is ZERO. This is an unprecedented event for everybody. The president, governors, mayors. This isnt as easy of a decision as some of you think it is but its REAL EASY to criticize on a message board when you dont have to make it.

Did I stutter? Anyone who like Trump, thinks we'll be going back to normal in 2 weeks needs to get their head checked.

What part of that statement do you not understand? If anyone thinks this virus is going to blow over within 2 weeks and we'll be back to normal, you need to seek out the nearest mental institution asap.

Also, why exactly is that question relevant whatsoever? Surely, it wouldn't be a feeble attempt at a personal attack would it? :)

You're right, no I have never had the responsibility of leading millions of people. However, having watched other governors and their actions these past few weeks, I feel it's safe to say Kemp has done a poor job. I work in government and see first-hand our leaders navigate these troubled times and I have to applaud their efforts and leadership.

I think it is just a ploy to get congress off their butts and pass this package. He is well aware of what is happening and what will happen. However, if they can't reach a solution, the country will be opened back up and nature will take its' course. The blood of the victims will be on their hands.

So you don’t have kids but you can say some people care more about money then their son or daughter. That’s a comment people without kids can say and it’s stupid. You will learn one day my man. Fathers love their kids more then money and you will see how great it is. I’m not going to fall to your level and attack people because I don’t agree with them. I’ll let you do that since it makes you feel better. Like I said before I was 24 once. Keep doing your thang brother!

I gave Cooper a lot of crap last week for not making a decision. Probably hit send before thinking it through......Im not a fan of his at all but this is a tough thing to navigate. Is Kemp doing a bad job? Maybe but its certainly not a contest and he has to make the decision based on information he is gathering from his cabinet
 
I made an effort in my original post not to call anyone out by name, but I guess no one read my post. Same types of attacks are continuing. Sure you don't have to listen to me, I'm not a mod and you don't know me, but really it's just common decency to treat others well. I expect this type of behavior on Reddit, not here.

"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Your mothers should have taught you that.
