Political Thread

I made an effort in my original post not to call anyone out by name, but I guess no one read my post. Same types of attacks are continuing. Sure you don't have to listen to me, I'm not a mod and you don't know me, but really it's just common decency to treat others well. I expect this type of behavior on Reddit, not here.

"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all." Your mothers should have taught you that.

Well I’ve been kicked out of the Caronavirus thread for being to political go figure

So you don’t have kids but you can say some people care more about money then their son or daughter. That’s a comment people without kids can say and it’s stupid. You will learn one day my man. Fathers love their kids more then money and you will see how great it is. I’m not going to fall to your level and attack people because I don’t agree with them. I’ll let you do that since it makes you feel better. Like I said before I was 24 once. Keep doing your thang brother!

Yeah I can say that because it's true? So, you're willing to tell me with 100% confidence that of the tens of millions of parents in this country, there's even not a single one that doesn't care about their pocket books over the kids? Whenever you'd like me to help unbury your head out of the sand, let me know.

Also correct me if I'm wrong, but you're the one that decided to step out of line and ask me the question about whether I had kids or not which has nothing to do w/ COVID-19 or political ramifications from it. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. You have absolutely no room to tell me or anyone else for that matter not to personally attack people when you've been doing precisely that.

I’m not attacking you. You made comment and I had a question. Real fathers love their kids more then money. 100%. Relax we need you strong for the next argument!

Not to be that person, but the due to the evolution of Congress, it will never get work done. Congress is built upon greediness and lobbying that defeats the epitome of it, to voice what's right for the people of the United States of America. Because of the two party system, Congress will never be able to function at the capacity it should be doing.

I'm a Democrat and I'm disappointed in what is unfolding, but this is not a time to blame Republicans or Democrats, it's a lot easier to criticize people's decisions without knowing what the logistics are behind them.

Trump saying they are going to open the country in a matter of weeks. But still need 2 Trillion in stimulus?

Can someone tell me exactly what Trump closed anyway? Other than national borders I don't think he has done anything at the state level.

If the founding fathers could see what Congress has become, they would have fled to France and let the British win the war!

In all seriousness, that's why I proposed the term limits. I know it will never be reality, but it's nice to dream. Also a complete lobby ban and a true 3rd party would be nice as well. Once thing libertarians fail at is making themselves a viable alternative, as the recent "libertarian" presidential candidates acted more like republicans, or idiots (looking at you Gary Johnson). Let's remove or significantly reduce Congress' salary as well while we're at it.

Just to play devils advocate for a sec :) There is too much money to be made and congress is a business. Would I like term limits? Sure but a crook is a crook if its 1 year or 20 years. Does no good if we had termimits and "x" state votes in crook after crook. Same for 3rd party candidates. People say getting rid of lobbyist is the answer. You have to have them but i definitely believe you have to wait a period of several years after serving in congress before being able to lobby. The real problem in my opinion is the voter. The voter has 100% control over term limits

It is my understanding that Trump has been encouraging leadership at the state level to make the call on shutting things down if needed in his conference calls with them. The stimulus is to help those who are losing jobs due to the state shutdowns and general slowing of the economy as national, local and regional restrictions were put into place.

I haven’t seen the evening PC, what was the summary of it?

Yes....as most know, the economy dont roar back quite as quick as it drops. Dont know if it needs to be 2 trillion but im not an economist

Unfortunately the majority of the electorate (and the country) are easily distracted and downright dumb. As long as the Congressman shares the same party affiliation, they will always blindly vote him in over and over. Only way they get voted out is due to a shift in political ideology or a scandal, and even then sometimes not. Do you really think those Senators caught dumping their stocks early are not going to be re-elected, unless they resign (lol)?

Trump just brought up flu deaths and car accident deaths. YOU know what that means.

Yeah unbelievable.....ok not really when we consider who was speaking but still. Also hearing Trump sidelined Dr Fauci since he was out there saying we need to shut down more etc......so don't expect to see much of him anymore.

This I agree with. As far as the senators selling stock, investigate them. If the followed rules and regulations so be it. If im not mistaken Burr is retiring so there is that

Yeah because keeping the stock market and big business afloat at the expense of American lives is the solution here. Anyone who like Trump, thinks we'll be going back to normal in 2 weeks needs to get their head checked.

I haven't see where Trump said that; do you have a link or is this just another one of your "thoughts?"

And this is what? A strawman? If so it's on fire from how crappy it is.

I'm surprised your mother hasn't kicked you out of the house yet and when there's not much brain matter it's easy to hurt.

I did read that and did write it. Grow up; or is that all you're good at; hurling insults from your mother's basement?

Look who decided to crawl out from underneath their hidey-hole to immediately sling mud and personal attacks at literally everyone! I smell a permanent ban coming on.

Look who decided to keep on being obnoxious. Just pointing out the facts; something you clearly can't grasp or you'd quit throwing out a bunch of b.s. then try to accuse others.

Care to answer? Got any links? Doubt it because it wasn't said and you just can't seem to accept that somebody will call you on your brand of crap.

If you can't see that restarting the economy and normal activities within the next 2 weeks isn't an absolutely horrendous idea and a fantastic way to put hundreds of thousands of additional lives at risk, then no one can help you.

Also, consider yourself blocked from now on, I'm sure a permanent ban for you isn't lagging too far behind anyway so it likely won't matter in any case.

And that stock market and this economy is what gives you and everyone a job and helps us survive. Take that away and then this virus will pale in comparison to poverty and homelessness.

Do me a favor. Find an old couple preferably married for 50+ years. Tell them you would like the economy to get back on track and that in order to do that they need to suck it up and risk everything for the STOCK market.

After one of them succumbs to the virus look the surviving one in the face and say "thanks for your sacrifice I just bought a new 60 inch TV"

Some of yall disappoint me.

My mom and dad, 77 & 80, are devastated because they've worked their entire life. They didn't borrow, they paid cash, scraped, saved and several years ago invested and they did if for their children and grandchildren, that's how they are. They are losing everything thing they've worked their entire life for. It worries my dad so much, me, my brother and my sister have to talk to him every day to calm his nerves, the economic crash is killing him. They both have said they just want things to open up and get back to normal. It breaks my heart to see him losing his investment, it's not selfish, for my parents its selflessness and killing them because they care more about the future of the next generation then their own. It pays to see things from all perspectives.

Should be easy to calm the nerves. Y'all are in it for the long haul correct? It will recover with time and their investment will still pay off.

I know this and we tell my dad that daily but it's not as easy for him to see it vanishing before his eyes like it is. Anyway I was just adding a different perspective

Look at it this way. A couple saved up and worked hard and had 500k in the stock market to live off for the next 20 years. Now a crash comes and their savings is worth 250k and they have no idea how much further it’ll go down. That will cause a ton of fear and worry for any elderly couple... and I know quite a few in this exact boat who would prefer the economy get back up and running vs the anxiety/fear that comes with seeing their investments cut in half in a few weeks.

The economy is crashing because of an out of control virus. Opening things back up making this virus even more unpredictable, even more rampant, and even more widespread is not bringing the economy back its hurting the economy even more.

I'd take a bullet for both of my kids, sacrifice for our children comes easy and if anyone ever accused me of loving money more then them, well they'd only say it once to my face.

This harkens back to my earlier point wrt Trump and many conservatives prioritizing the economy over actual lives. Many are only concerned about their check books in the immediate term and fail to see the bigger picture and disastrous consequences that come with the other alternative of keeping the economy open and overloading the health care system beyond repair and having basically everyone requiring ICU and those needing immediate treatment for ailments that have absolutely nothing to do with the coronavirus potentially perish because they can’t get the medical treatment they need right away.

Hey man, there are financial advisers who specialize in working with retirees. Most I know work off the rule of 100. Meaning your age -100 you should have protected. So an 80 year old should have 80% protected from loss in a no risk position. Please understand I'm not trying to be a jerk in any way. Just once they recover they might want to look at repositioning. Most 80 year olds have "won the race" and don't need to take that risk, especially if it is earmarked for legacy purposes. That sounds like your family. I hope the best for them

IF they are working with an FA currently that advised an 80 year old to be in a high risk portfolio you may want to look at other means of recourse.

Damn straight. I would do it in a heartbeat. It’s about making our children’s life better then ours. As a Parent you learn to sacrifice a lot and I would do anything if it helped my kids in the future. Got to be a parent to under that I guess.

Theres no easy pathway forward sadly.

They have an advisor and it's not in high risk, problem is everything is down these days. I don't know all the details, he's a stubborn buzzard.
