Wintry Winter 2019-20 Discussion

Good. It favors lots of blocking, as far as we know.
Although, some teleconnections are not as predominant as they used to be with our warmer climate. I wouldn't bank on this being significant

Good thing it’s not April/May, otherwise there would be nasty severe weather events with a strong -AAM, trough being hinted at next week in the central US needs to be watched, nice 500mb flow outa the SW could allow for a fall severe wx setup in the central US

Won’t happen with the SER around. Everything will just move around this Bit%h.

Same old story the last few winters, record cold in Europe and Asia and PNE, while SE bakes
With all this chatter on the SER I think it’s time for a monstrous snowstorm...a blizzard for the entire southeast...apocalyptic in nature as though hell legit froze over. ...that’s probably a little too harsh I’m sure but a nice snow storm for everyone will do for the 19-20 winter season. One can only hope. ;)

A repeat would make just about everybody on this board happy.

I’m seeing what it is you’re posting but I just don’t believe it

Been some clean living going on east of 95 past decade. 95 and points east and the GSO corridor has done very well. RDU starting to make a comeback the past couple of winters. I feel like we (Raleigh) is due for a clunker of winter snowfall wise. When was the last time we had 3 winters in a row of great snowfalls.

Below are just the ones off the top of my head, I bet there is a few more.

The December 2010 storm would make the vast majority of us very happy. It is definitely the last super widespread major snowstorm. The amount of NC with totals above 6 inches is absurd.

Ironically I was visiting family where I am currently living in Eastern TN. It snowed for 2 days straight basically (Northwest flow for the win). Measured 14-15 inches and I'm sure there was several several inches of compaction (probably 16-18 fell). By far the most epic storm I've ever experience. It was 20s and snow for 48 hours. I remember still going to church on Sunday morning with over a foot on the ground hahaha Stands out because we would shut down the town in Greenville, NC for an inch.

I'd take a 2010 redo in my first winter living here haha

This was really the first winter storm that really got me into weather. I was a mere 13 years old. Safe to say I was HOOKED hahaha I was such a nerdy kid.... HAHAHA now I'm just a nerd

Oh my gosh I feel so old....

Tell me about it...I could run and jump back then. Can barely walk down the stairs with something not creaking/cracking.

What a great pattern that was back in Dec 2010...the pattern coming up has similarities. That was just a textbook miller A pattern. Maybe a preview of our Jan-March.

Makes me want to cry knowing that.
I can remember my Grandma telling me years ago that it flurried on Christmas morning when she was a kid. I like that I will be able to tell my kid and his kids about it one day ❄️ ⛄️ Like I got to see something they never will

“Grandpa it’s always 75 degrees on Christmas. Did it ever snow on Chirstmas when you were a kid?”

Me: “Pull up a chair.”
