There's definitely a decent setup for a short CAD event there. DPs extremely low to start and a 1040 or so high to get it cold enough. It's worth watching.Definite signal for a CAD storm threat on the 12z GEFS in the day 9-10 range.

This was one of the major IP storms at ATL (4.2"!!) and it was well within the MJO's COD (see red line of Jan):
Also, the NAO was solidly positive from late Dec through that entire January. However, the PNA/EPO was solidly +/- during and leading up to that period.

I ran into Fred Blackman from WGHP at a bar. He said they were looking at an area of sleet in Atlanta. By 3AM the temperature was down to 10F. Snow flurries had started. A flash freeze had frozen everything. Between 7AM and 2PM 17 inches of snow fell. At noon street lights were on. Trees cast shadows.
This became known, as the President's Day Storm in 1979.
