Misc Winter Whamby 2020, a New Decade

1. In his Saturday Summary today, JB is suggesting the E US MAY still have a cold March. Note that he has finally given up on his cold winter forecast. He’s blaming warm W Pacific tropical waters.

2. In his video now that he’s already given up on this winter being cold, he gave a hint that next winter will be cold in the E US based on a CFSv2 projection of warmest water moving to where he thought it would be this winter. He thinks that would put the mean trough in the east instead of in the west. :) :) ;)

Edit: Why should we even believe the CFSv2 SST forecast? That warmth in the W PAC isn’t going to go away easily. I mean that’s what screwed up JB for this winter. But he’s considering again going with the model after being fooled? He doesn’t make sense imo.

If it's not going to be snowing can I have just like one week of dry so I can get my barn built please. The house too but I know that's way too much to ask. At least the birds would have better living quarters not under trees- a - leanin'. Would be interesting to have the non English speaking crew that I can't understand very well stuck in my pasture. They did a great job on my other barn except I had to fix the generator for them...I can only imagine how a mud bogging scenario would go...Lawd ...Thank you.

We can do this! My garden area has been tilled.

I just have to compliment you on that good looking dirt!! Wish my dirt looked like that.:D

0Z GEFS E10 = Snowicane, Blizznado, tropical iceclone, the chilly Willy-Willy, the mighty hail gail... that’s about all I can think of.

In my continuing 10-year quest to learn enough to one day be able to add something of value to this board besides obs - can someone clarify for me why the 540 line is in central FL on this map but the precip type is showing rain in GA?

Shallow precipitation, maybe closer to the surface, or even a thick pool of warm air at the surface, not sure of the exact model algorithm.

Damn Parker! Those are some hogs! What type of bait?

My go to is always a Texas rigged 7.5 inch zoom curly tail plastic worm in junebug or red bug. We had a bachelor weekend down in south Alabama for a buddy and hunted pigs all weekend, drank beer, shot guns, and did some fishing. These all were on a pumpkinseed worm. Good eating size!

That snow was all convective too. It had snowed for almost 5 hours that morning in Charlotte metro with temps in the mid 30s. Here in Wingate the sun actually came out early in the afternoon and warmed up temps to the lower 40s. I remember watching the radar that whole afternoon and it looking like a line of spring severe thunderstorms heading right for us. As soon as the snow started it was very heavy with thunder and the temperature crashed from 41 to 32 in just about 5 minutes. We ended up with 2.5 inches in only about an hour and fifteen minutes of snowfall
This was definitely fun I remember being in Apex And I saw it coming towards us and it was sunny and I was telling everyone we were going to get a squall line of snow with at least 1-3 inches possible and everyone thought the local meteorologists were crazy and then it got dark just like a thunderstorm and we had wild wind driven snow for a couple hours .. wild stuff

Shad run has started here in eastern NC. Rivers a high but I managed to catch one in just a few minutes in the cold this morning. The next month should be fun. Their nickname is the carolina tarpon.

Oddly enough, Tarpon spawn in the Pamlico Sound.

People actually eat largemouth bass? Ugh.

I grew up on that stuff and it’s some fine eating, especially the ones that size. We keep everything under 15 inches. Outside of a crappie, fresh caught largemouth bass is my favorite fried fish. Bream is also hard to beat.

I love catching bass, but man at this point I’m just waiting for those summer nights fishing for flathead catfish, those things put one helluva fight, especially those 10 pound+ ones
