Pretty remarkable that it show it still being a hurricane in GA despite not going over water.
Spann says no direct impact from Irma.

Yeah, I thought that I would never be seeing a tropical storm on North Georgia, but it looks like we are about to get one.
Yep, Irma is like a Freight Train going full tilt with a load of coal down a mountain. Hard to slow down

I have to say that Irma will be huge just as everyone else did. The NAM isn't all that unrealistic for once.
Irma has really been growing a lot in size today. I wonder how large it is now. I don't know if it was true, but I had heard either last night or early this morning it was about 700mi. in diameter.

I believe and remember Hurricane Opal still being a Cat 1 as she/he passed just to the west of Atlanta 20 years ago. I just looked it up and it was this week 20 years ago... Umh . eerie...

This thing has Floyd nightmare for emergency managers written all over it. With that NHC track which is what they go by, and it acclerating, they could be looking at there implementation steps for Major hurricane evacs for everyone south of I4.
I'm interested to see how much Cuba weakens Irma tomorrow and Saturday. If it goes just a little south of the forecast it would be over Cuba for at least 12 hours.

That part of cuba is relatively flat compared to the west end.

Gah I really hope the 12z GFS is false and if the 12z Euro is right my aunt and uncle need to pack their bags and head for Georgia today because that's the worst case scenario for ALL of Florida.

Speaking of the NAM, fwiw, 18z shifted east of it's 12z run but at the end appears to be bending NW towards Ga....
