Pattern Januworry

The SSTs are mostly a response to atmospheric forcing and on these timescales outside the tropics, their contribution to the GOA ridge is pretty small/minimal. The atmosphere usually leads SSTs in the extratropics
But can the warmer SSTs cause reinforced warming into the stratosphere from updraft heating? If so, wouldn't that cause the ridge to remain for a prolonged period of time? Or to cause the ridge from weakening?
