GFS just full weenie mode for most of the board. Wow!!
Probably would have sheared out or suppressed any system if it dug that far south with that strong of a TPV

Not with this look.
If the TPV is broad, well oriented and moving east, then it can act as fuel. Example from my all time favorite run:

The 0z GFS actually might be onto something good for the western areas of the Southeast. With the SER still a player in a -PNA regime the most likely event for many on this board, especially west of GA or AL would be an overrunning event involving a lot of mixed precip, vs any kind of classic Miller A gulf low and deep cold. Any kind of cooldown would be from a shallow Arctic airmass, making an ice storm more likely than a big snowstorm for many.
This is probably one of the best trends I’ve seen in a while if we get enough lower heights in ak we could boot the cold in Canada east via fast flow, also a nice nod to a -WPO
What we need is for the vortex to get stuck in AK and below it have a ridge that tries to scoot on the west coast, this is probably gonna dig but anything away from the GOA ridge pattern is a positive

Maybe not complete support for that exact scenario but it seems relatively colder heading into early January some change will come

Only change we can surely count on will be calendar goes from December to January but same tune

Not really cold but big cold changes in some areas (will probably reverse next run):
