Wintry Dec 8-10th Winter Storm

I looked at the Cobb output for Greensboro for the 18z op run. This is crazy! Too much of a good thing.
19.4" of snow
.14" qpf of sleet
.28" of freezing rain
2.96" of total liquid equivalent

My first prediction on totals. Up to 2 feet in the NC mountains. Isolated locations and mountain tops may approach 3 feet or more. Foothills...10-14” expected with locally higher totals approaching 20” above 2,000 feet. Piedmont Triad...Winston-GSO...6-12” possible with some sleet accumulation too. 4-8” south and east of there with major sleet. Big cities...Raleigh and Charlotte...1-3” with some 3-6”+ totals across portions of the two counties. I do NOT expect any sig. ZR due to heavy rates and marginable temps. Heavy sleet accumulations are possible anywhere from Statesville to Charlotte to High Point.
Sounds about right. Although i think youre being slightly generous for those of us in raleigh, durham, chapel hill. I think sleet and cold rain.

You didn't want to take a shot at the upstate

The fact that I have a 14-16 inch mean on gefs is insane, I know some of that is sleet but still I'm betting on 6+ inches of snow in my area

Based on what? Because it isn't the model runs today.

That is generous. Nothing at all is pointing for Wake to make it out with anything above 1-3inch of a snow/sleet mix. Not too mention there is 1.5 of rain after too.

Unfortunately the reality of this event will leave wake with very little If anything on the ground if models are correct.

Is someone willing to to take a shot at upstate sc? my gut tells me 2-4 north of 85. That of course it snow and sleet mix.

Unless the wedge comes in a lot stronger.

To the members asking about what happened to the 18z FV3. The FV3 is still in it's experimental stages, therefore, it may not always be available. But, it may release it's new data later on.

I believe their is no chance for me here in east central Mississippi as of now ! I hope things change. I sure would love to be in gatlinburg this weekend that’s for sure !
I’ll be in Gatlinburg all weekend. Unfortunately, they are on the West side of the Apps. Gatlinburg will actually see mostly rain from this system. Will likely turn to snow towards Sunday afternoon I would think. Now Asheville is a different story.
