2020-2021 Winter: Early Thoughts

Imma going to put my meteorological career on the line and say, I really don't think this winter is going to as bad as all the (Winter Forecasts) and Indices are indicating at this time. I think the winter will go in the books with Temps above normal, But I think we end up above normal SNOW. I think there will be several CAD events with ZR/IP with at least one major ICE STORM. I think there will be some (very cold) air outbreaks that only last a couple days. Specifically for my area (NW NC Foothills),
Snow-14 inches
Ice- 1 major Ice storm 1/4 inch or more. several small events.
Lowest Temp- (8*)
This is JMO- Bash away! lol
 
Sleet's great if it's cold enough to stick.. Chattanooga gets a lot of worthless (over 32 degrees) sleet.

There's nothing bad about sleet. That's wintry precip and wintry precip is so desired in the SE since it is so rare. I'd rather get 2" of sleet than 0.7" of rain.

I mean when I was that close to glory, I think I’m ok to say I didn’t enjoy that storm very much

Oh he’d love it. I bet I’ve been robbed of 5+ inches of snow in 10 years here bc of sleet

Same, I think this winter could have the potential to be colder than previous winters.

I think you’re probably right about that, but I would put the best window from 12/10-1/10. After that I could see things getting really mild for the rest of the winter
 
No idea how well these models perform.. but looks like the CanSIPS has Dec as the best bet for cold/snow in our area, while the CFS looks better in Feb.

They're so bad that you should basically take the result and expect the opposite. That's why I'm optimistic.
 
Taking a shot in the dark with a prediction for RDU:
December - Average Max 56, Average Min 34, Max 76, Min 23, Snowfall T
January - Average Max 51, Average Min 33, Max 73, Min 14, Snowfall 1.8"
February - Average Max 60, Average Min 37, Max 77, Min 20, Snowfall 0.5"
March - Average Max 66, Average Min 44, Max 82, Min 26, Snowfall 0
 
What I want this Winter:
Dec: 66/56
Jan: 65/55
Feb: 68/56
Mar:75/60

Realistically the closest I could get:

Dec: 63/43
Jan: 61/42
Feb: 68/44
Mar: 74/51

What will actually Happen:

Dec: 57/38
Jan: 54/35
Feb: 61/40
March: 65/41

I just looked at the November's of 98 and 99 for KATL, and neither had a low in the 60s. We are on another level of warmth now with these overnight lows.
