Misc 2019 Banter & Friendly Conservation

I'm gonna have to make another trip to the store for both pants (after seeing the fv3 runs) & more popcorn from reading this forum the past couple days. Excited to see where the roller coaster goes on the upcoming suites. The lack of run-run consistency in NWP and absurd spread speaks volumes to the uncertainty with this particular case I alluded to earlier and this is that kind of storm that's most likely to give many a wild emotional ride if you're still in contention for significant snow near game time. Hope everyone has their heart medication and aspirin ready.

Is the shutdown affecting the GFS or FV3 (or both) at all? I’ve heard conflicting info here.

Well if you have this thread up it probably killed itself.

I actually stepped away from the forums for a couple minutes to think about sports and type my opinions about it (although I had TT up) and it froze then. It was taking too long to start the first time I tried to restart, and I almost thought it wasn't going to the second time but it did. Seems to be settling down now too.

Essentially, the fv3 is still running as it normally would but they're not able to discontinue the older version of the GFS and/or make a few last second tweaks to the fv3 before making it fully operational. It's definitely a non-negligible setback but at least we have the model in our arsenal.

It was a wet snow, temps were above freezing for almost all of the metro. I got about 3 inches in the south metro. I remember I was upset I still had to go to school because the roads were all just wet with the temps above freezing.

Are you referring to February 2010? I had a similar story. This is probably the only storm that made me happy and pissed me off at the same time. l remember the initial snowband moved in as early as 7am, but the air was so dry nothing started falling here until around 1pm. I was a junior in high school and the snow started at the end of my lunch period going into my last class of the day. I think my last class was an english class so I couldn't concentrate, all I could do is keep looking out the window at the snow falling and thinking how I wish I was anywhere other than sitting at this desk in a classroom. I was lowkey annoyed they didn't do an early dismissal. lol

Thanks. Just didn’t know if something having to do with data injest was an issue from run to run. Sounds like that isn’t a problem (i.e. the model function is as good (or bad) as it ever was).

Yes lol. Storm was good but did not deliver the cancelations haha.

Well, I have said my peace. I think I will just take a break from posting and just read for a while until it is clear what is okay and what is not okay to post in the storm and pattern threads. Hope the storm this weekend works out.

Good lord you still don’t know ???? After all the damn posts and explanations and PMs . At what point do you consider it might be you
