Wintry 1/9-12 Winter Potential Great Dane or Yorkie

The big bad sun has unshaded asphalt covered areas nearly melted off already. 😭

Would be nice if we had one of these where we didn’t get to 45 the next day.
 
Just snapped a couple photos. Massive melting going on, the tree is dripping so much now it sounded like heavy rain. The road is melting so quickly in the sunny areas. Why couldn’t we get a cloudy day in the low 30s after? 😢

Not enough snow to bring out the sled, either, which is kind of sad. I had gotten it out of the shed just in case, LOL.

i mean I would imagine all the aircraft activity probably produces more latent heat near the surface and generally warms up the airport moreso than the surrounding areas. Just a theory though.

My thoughts exactly. I've noticed I am generally a 2-3 degrees cooler here in midtown then the airport, esp in the fall/winter. Spring/summer its not as noticeable but usually a degree or so cooler sometimes. Looks like the airport is 33.4, I am at 31.8 right now.

The airport is generally warmer though than the city. The entire time they were reporting 34 I was at 31. I think it skews snow totals down there imo. No proof to this though LOL.

I do seem to remember that in the January 2011 storm, the airport reported 3” while pretty much every report in town was in the 5-8” range.

I had close to an inch of snow maybe just over before the 30 mins of sleet then frzn took over.
There was so much ice here.
Probably similar to the pics fro took.
This wasn't a memorable enough storm to take pics.
I was disappointed that it snowed from 11 Am til 4 and we couldn't accumulate more than an inch after that amount of cold air & cold ground!
Also how much the frzn cut down on my totals !
Better than nothing but not what I wanted after close to 3 years!
 
Ended up with around .23 inches of liquid precip yesterday. Measured an additional .02 since midnight. At most, I probably had about 1.5" of snow, packed down with sleet, then a solid glaze of ZR that's still hanging on the trees. Thankfully our home in Cherokee county is in a community with underground utilities. Tenants in our East Lake home in Atlanta let us know that they lost power last night. Thankfully no major damage from falling limbs.

I can say KAGS recorded 1" of snow yesterday and based on what I saw while I was riding home, I buy it.

I'd actually buy just a touch more than that as well because there was a lot of slush in parking lots.

Still have some icicles stubbornly hanging on the roof right now even though it's around 40 outside.

Definitely the most impactful winter storm since Feb 2014 for here considering that there were quite a few road accidents. Just wish I could've observed a bit more, I couldn't since I was "working" (it was a slow day due to weather).
 
I know this storm didn’t turn out perfect for many, but it was still a major widespread winter storm for almost the entire board. And what a wonderful storm it was to track that followed a beautiful playbook.

1. Banging pattern recognition that finally materialized
2. Multiple 3-4 inch means on 300+hr ensembles.
3. Storm sorta lost for a few days, but signal still there
4. Models locked in that a legitimate widespread storm would happen around day 6/7

You can’t ask for more than that.

I can't help but laugh because in the days leading up to it ffc and local Atlanta TV Mets kept saying north of a line from Acworth to Gainesville to toccoa would be mostly snow/get the most...then to make it worse they lowered amounts to less than an inch I believe the night before. I HATED that graphic..the orientation/axis of precip amounts/types did not match model output or cad climo at all. Every time brad nitz on channel 2 or David chadley on 5..who should know better...showed it i was yelling at the TV lol.

That had been the TV met line since I was a kid. Grated it’s climo favored but still
