The temperatures during the event were about the same but the QPF was much higher in December 2002 and that event lasted much longer than this will thankfully for many of us. I'm concerned about ice accrual but I also keep telling myself this will not be a another December 2002. It caused more tree damage in my neighborhood then Fran did when she came through.

Even though this was forecast to be a mix, I think a lot of folks held out hope there would be some accumulating snow before the switch to freezing rain and sleet. We had a dusting here but the sleet and fzrn eroded it. Still a fan of any winter weather we can get.

Yeah im in Habersham and getting nervous. Lot of freezing rain and its building up on vegetation that is already covered in snow. Can someone help me understand why we have been under 32 all day but it started to meltat a pretty good rate once the zr came through? Would assume it would freeze on contact but its been dripping pretty hard off the roof for a few hours

Yea, I've got all snow now a bit S of you. Sticking to all pavement it looks like. I'm enjoying it while it lasts before the mixing starts again..
During the day solar insulation still can help melt it..the other is the temp of the drops themselves are warmed a bit from warm layer aloft. Lastly precip rates can be high enough to not allow it to freeze in time.

Yeah we switched to ZR for a short period before switching back to sleet and snow.
Earlier this evening had a few inches waiting on the snow to slacken up a bit. Airport currently reporting heavy intensity snow.
I was just a kid at the time so all I remember from Dec 02 was the quick burst of snow at the onset then waking up to no power and destruction the next morning.
