Wintry 1/9-12 Winter Potential Great Dane or Yorkie

27 with all sleet here now. I may have gotten 2” of snow. Overall a pretty big disappointment based on forecast, but precip was late and didn’t begin until 12:30. Hoping we get that switch back to snow, but the reports of sleet up to morganton and north isn’t making me feel real confident.

Honestly I think in marginal temp situations like this, just light drizzle is probably the most efficient thing you can have for ZR to accumulate. Looks like parts of north Georgia have a couple of hours remaining of off and on light ZR

Rates upgraded to moderate. Got some pingers mixing back in.

I'll take this moment to say it's uncommon for an event to start where the sn/ip "sticks" so quickly. Usually we got a warmish ground and rely on rates to overcome seeing some white on the ground, then pavement. Also have the benefit of falling at night.

Keeping an eye on the frz rain mixing in later. I ain't worried yet, but growing up in the Triad made me respect any ice accrual potential, and it's been a long time since Raleigh got a significant ice storm. Wouldn't be pretty around here if that happened. (they don't call it the city of oaks for nothing)

Yeah the freezing rain is kind of surprising right now, this is one of the colder ZR setups I’ve seen here in a while

I thought we'd get one good snow hit from the western band before the transition and we didn't make it. NWS just announced don't drive in the sleet and freezing rain. :(
