The temperatures during the event were about the same but the QPF was much higher in December 2002 and that event lasted much longer than this will thankfully for many of us. I'm concerned about ice accrual but I also keep telling myself this will not be a another December 2002. It caused more tree damage in my neighborhood then Fran did when she came through.Light freezing rain at 26.9 degrees. Is this what Dec 02 was like?
Yeah to be honest I'll be glad to see the over withI’ve noticed that some people take pleasure when things go bad. It’s really weird.
Yall will get backside pure sugar latter tonight,to cap it off as storm leaves coast ots.Little Switzerland. Switched back to snow for a few minutes after the sleet but now we’re in a lull.
Um, I lived in Greensboro at the time and you wouldn’t make it if you stepped outside. 50 years old it was one of the worst in my lifeLight freezing rain at 26.9 degrees. Is this what Dec 02 was like?
Even though this was forecast to be a mix, I think a lot of folks held out hope there would be some accumulating snow before the switch to freezing rain and sleet. We had a dusting here but the sleet and fzrn eroded it. Still a fan of any winter weather we can get.I've got a question. Why are some posting like they're gloating at a transition to sleet and ice, and why the hell are my branches covered in ice and breaking off when the ice wasn't supposed to accumulate well?
Weird dude.
That’s what I’m hoping for. We had about a half inch of NW flow here Wednesday night that I wasn’t expecting. Short range models show some light powder through tomorrow mid morning.Yall will get backside pure sugar latter tonight,to cap it off as storm leaves coast ots.
Yea this cant even sniff that one. Need a inch plus qpf to even get in the category. And temp about 22 at the surface.Um, I lived in Greensboro at the time and you wouldn’t make it if you stepped outside. 50 years old it was one of the worst in my life
Yeah im in Habersham and getting nervous. Lot of freezing rain and its building up on vegetation that is already covered in snow. Can someone help me understand why we have been under 32 all day but it started to meltat a pretty good rate once the zr came through? Would assume it would freeze on contact but its been dripping pretty hard off the roof for a few hoursHonestly I think in marginal temp situations like this, just light drizzle is probably the most efficient thing you can have for ZR to accumulate. Looks like parts of north Georgia have a couple of hours remaining of off and on light ZR
Me too!Yeah to be honest I'll be glad to see the over with
I think the only thing that has saved us today has been that there was absolutely no wind. If that kicks up we’re in tou le in NE GAGeorgia about to pass 100k. It’s the wind I think View attachment 162619
Yea, I've got all snow now a bit S of you. Sticking to all pavement it looks like. I'm enjoying it while it lasts before the mixing starts again..Pouring snow now, up in Durham now and will have to brave the roads back to Chapel Hill in a few minutes.
During the day solar insulation still can help melt it..the other is the temp of the drops themselves are warmed a bit from warm layer aloft. Lastly precip rates can be high enough to not allow it to freeze in time.Yeah im in Habersham and getting nervous. Looks like it'll be gone by 9 if not before How much did you get?@Frosty can confirm sleet line around Roaring River to Elkin headed your way. Still pockets of heavy snow especially west of 77
same here with power flickering in Mcdonough....friend in Locust Grove lost power for an hourPower flashing here and just heard first transformer blow
Yeah we switched to ZR for a short period before switching back to sleet and snow.Luckily here at the NC/SC border and around 1200 ft elevation it's been almost majority sleet since the changeover, with a few snowflakes still mixing in here and there. So far not much in the way of freezing rain.
I was just a kid at the time so all I remember from Dec 02 was the quick burst of snow at the onset then waking up to no power and destruction the next morning.Um, I lived in Greensboro at the time and you wouldn’t make it if you stepped outside. 50 years old it was one of the worst in my life
Man you've switched to sleet and I've not seen a flake, doesn't bode well hereJust changed over to sleet. Hopefully we can keep the freezing rain away.
