Wintry 1/9-12 Winter Potential Great Dane or Yorkie

Ok, I’m gonna call it…. 3hrs of All Snow (45 min was actually decent Flakes. Began losing to Warm Nostrils at 630…. Never fully won again) Had we not mixed as originally thought by some models I could’ve for sure seen 3-5” in this area 100% Maybe around .4 - .5” QPF

Mooresville Nc - 1/10/25

Snow - 1/2”
Sleet - 1/2”
ICE - 1/4”

A few hours of light to moderate pixie dust here in Richmond. I think we’ll be lucky to crack 2 inches. Low end of the guidance envelope but not a bust. This was a route 58 to petersburg snow. Don’t really care though, it was such a pleasant, windless, powdery snow that had no problems accumulating. Going out to my friends river house tomorrow to throw snowballs and drink beer and eat oysters. On to the next.

What in the? How is it so light there? Is that the camera or do you live on a street that bright?

Wait a minute.. do I live in a cave and this is normal?

There is something other worldly about listening to the music of Arrakis in the completely opposite environment. The virgin snow & ice crunching under my boots. The chill in my body. I’m alone. It’s dark. Beautiful. Reduced to tears. I’ve waited 7 years for today. Grateful.

This will be gone tomorrow. But right now. It’s all mine. And I share it with everyone.

If you live in Atlanta & love the magic of dihydrogen monoxide in its solid state, I hope you too experienced the indescribable joy of it falling from the sky.

I dream of seeing it again another day. Hopefully soon.

And now I let its fleeting beauty go…

cuz it’s cold AF!

And I come back to the warmth of this. I’m not going to wake them.

Enjoy every moment!

I am going to try setting a vibrate alarm on my watch and we’ll see if that’s good enough to wake me up, LOL. Don’t want to set a real alarm and wake up my lady or she’d be none to happy to be shocked awake in the middle of the night. 😂

I actually managed to wake up and check and it seems precip is largely over and whatever fell was probably just more ZR, anyways. Disappointing, but oh well. Definitely not making my 2-3” I expected here, hope we at least made an inch (seemed like it, but I never formally measured). I don’t think RDU itself made an inch. The couple hours of snow we had were great, at least.

RAH reported:
Greensboro (GSO) 2.1 inches
Raleigh (RDU) 0.7 inches
NWS Raleigh (RAH) 0.4 inches

They also reported 0.10 inches freezing rain at 3:45 am

The GSO report matches what I measured west of Winston at 2 am at 2.1 inches

Got around an inch of snow/sleet frozen solid, and then a good amount of ice coating everything. It's thick enough that I'm worried of losing power once the winds start picking up this morning. I'll have some great pictures when the sun comes out as well.

Ended with freezing rain all afternoon until around 10 pm last night. Everything was glazed over with a decent amount of ice. Fortunately we stayed at 32 overnight, most of the ice is gone along with any snow we had.

My total was in line with GSP I think. .5-.7 is a safe bet. Mix of snow and sleet. More than a dusting but less than an inch. I thought there’d be more ice accrued but I’d forgotten how cold it needed to be for ice to really start to stack up. 30 degrees wasn't quite cold enough
