May 2021 Discussion Thread

Oddly enough it's a tale of 2 seasons. Despite being horrible dry the last 6-8 weeks PGV is actually still a little over an inch above normal year to date. Super wet early and bone dry in the spring.
Hopefully it'll rain soon. If it does not though it's possible some of us get a repeat of 1993 which was very hot and dry. We got into a feedback loop that summer because May and June were so dry. Then July was very hot AND dry. We mixed out daily along and north of I-85 in SC from dewpoints close to 70 at sunrise down to 50-55 by mid afternoon. I-77 and east in both states were a good bit wetter because of less mixing.

What a difference a day with plenty of late May sunlight makes! DFW is overachieving by a few degrees and has made it to 90*F (3rd for the year).

About got damn time...

Unfortunately, the BS will return and linger for maybe several days by Thursday night.

Wow two in a row huh? I won’t be having a drought any time soon ... also I wasn’t really worried about us going without rain I think we have multiple impulses coming down the line over the next week and models usually come into better agreement on dynamic as you get closer .. I wouldn’t be worried about drought if you at least live in NC 253DD1CA-5450-451B-A782-D92CCF6F7EBE.png

High was 94! Boom I was on it . Humid day as well dews in were in 70s with temps in low 90s before mixing a bit and rising to 94 . Intense downpour while I was at state , when I walked out no clouds and the air was super humid and smelled like rain ! The wonderful post rain smell!

Can't be any happier than a chance of rain coming soon. My grass, fruit trees, flowers all need some love.

I had a decent little bunch on my peach tree this year and when me and my son checked it today there were probably 50 that had dropped off and were laying on the ground. The rest were not growing much so I probably lost any chance at peaches this year.

I was surprised to actually see some leaves falling today, Poplar trees (which are not drought tolerant at all) but even some oak trees.

poplar trees are horrible , every July it seems the highway is lined by yellow poplars shedding leaves . Or am I thinking of sycamores ? One of the 2!

Dubious, that’s 30 degrees below average . Similar to what happened in may perhaps it will be a few degrees warmer .
You have to think this will be the last of the wedges going into summer. I know we've had summer CAD events before but they're rare.
