Or they are going to claim they are a threat and they need to build up their forces or take measures to protect us or something. If they are real, they could have easily wiped us out no matter what the military did. So if they disclose and then try to go down that path, hopefully most people won't fall for it and give the military too much power.

There’s a guy on the other forum I frequent who believes in the UFOs but is a crazy crazy like I mean out of this world crazy religious but ( he was an atheist , then he became a Jew hating proud Ukrainian ( only half Ukrainian ) then proud Jersey Italian , then he found god and discovered he was gay) believes they are flying demons not aliens . So yeah .
Some people would consider angels, demons as aliens, which by definition I guess they would be aliens.
