Wintry Jan 27-28 Snow Potential Official Thread

I know it's supposed to be all doom and gloom but that's a pretty potent looking band forming up over North Wilkesboro on radar right now.

Can confirm .9 through two rain Gaige’s. Better change over soon. 39.8. ?‍♂️

Please, forgive my error. Just under half inch. I misread my gauges. Anyway, better change soon. I have to hit the rack as I have an 8AM Webex call.

They’re not changing their totals. Temps are falling quite in line with forecast.
Thanks guys.
Definitely getting melting flakes in the rain. Ran puppy outside real quick. Wind is up as well. Hopefully this can flip while under these echoes an isotherm the column. Needs to hustle up

Surface warm, delayed cooling but upper levels cooling quicker... I think it's about to flip here. Temp down to 38, seeing some raindrops "splatter" on my north facing window
Nice! Probably about right on time. Still 42 here in weather purgatory but my wind finally went from E to NE so I may start cooling soon

I’ve been saying it for .. shoot.. probably as long as the fv16 has had this damn system.. the Column is PRIME to CRASH at any moment .. if u blink u might miss it .. and also the rates are going to be NUTS they always are and every time someone sees it in here they can’t believe their eyes ... same case will apply here again .. and I’ll be one of those dudes!

45 degrees here. I’ve got a pot of coffee going and firewood stacked in the garage. Ready for the snow. The anticipation is killing me.

There's an unimpressed pajama boy meme over in the whamby thread, consider it a response to this post too ?

Update from Greg Fishel.

12:25AM Update

Doppler radar confirms that the snow level is lowering rapidly, and the changeover to snow should occur in the Triangle within the next hour. Since this is such a quick hit, any delay in the transition to snow will cut back on the snow accumulations, but at least at this moment, I still feel good about the 2-4" projection. Another Facebook live coming up at 1:15AM with radar, satellite, surface observations, and anything else I can get my hands on!

36.2 / 34.0 with 0.6" lost liquid happiness through the bucket.

But the first mix is starting to fall west of Winston.
;)

Went to bed at 10:30, just woke up and still seems to be all rain. Hope we get a transition soon, this is around the time the modeling had MBY transitioning, I think....

Thinking of snoozing for another half hour and then checking in again.
