Pattern January 2021 - Joyless January

Just checking in and catching up. Glad were starting to get digital snow! That's a nice warning shot as we get into mid January and we actually have some cold to work with.

For next weekend, I'm just not a fan of ULLs. Never seem to be cold enough imby and even when it snows, it's 34-35 degrees at the surface and it melts as it falls. That's what's shown right now, so unless it trends significantly colder, I'll sell this storm to buy mid month.

Really nice to see signs of the arctic entering the picture; the last piece of the puzzle. Is this real? We'll see, I certainly hope so.

I think March 2009 was an upper low. One of the very few to work out.

Yeah that did not work out for clt. A few sloppy wet inches after much, much rain. Everybody brings that one up, but I was not a fan. Great for other parts of nc though.
I though CLT got nailed by that. I know the GSP metro certainly did. Yeah that could have been much better since a lot did fall as rain and the bands that got the GSP metro never really got down to me. They stopped about 8 miles to my north.

I lived in the University area during the March 2009 storm and I thought it worked out fine. The airport ended up with almost 5 inches and I measured 5.5 and got thunder snow.

Why does the map look like this? Who did we piss off?

Well, it’s 10 days out so maybe don’t take it verbatim.

Damn whoever lived in the foothills for that one..... pain View attachment 62274
Yeah I remember seeing the visible satellite pictures the next day and thinking how odd it was to see that small strip that didn’t have snow cover. This wasn’t a bad storm at all. It was a paste bomb, but it actually stayed on the ground a couple days which usually doesn’t happen with March snow
