If not for a meager CAD, we are under the ridge into early March. Wild.

I honestly think winter is over, and for me I hope it Is. We need longer warmer days with hopefully some dry spells here and there. These cold rains we been having Sux! Yesterday here was forecasted 63 with 30% chance rain. Well it was 52° and light rain all day long!

I hear you! It’s gonna get better. My Bermuda is greening up. Hard freeze tomorrow night will curb it but smooth sailing after that. Pushing 80 next week. Glad the end is in sight.

I thought you were a snownut

For those of you that said from the beginning this season would offer no hope, well congratulations for your accurate 90 day outlook. May I suggest you get hired for chief met and climatologist?
Well, at least in this area we've only had 2 above average snowfall years out of the past decade. And I'm sure only one year 14-15 maybe that averaged colder than normal for the winter season. So you could make the call winter will suck for cold and snow compared to average every year in July and be right more often than not. The SE truly does suck and winter anymore.

The GFS stopped giving me hope of anything a long time ago.. lol. Seriously though the SER does look to continue to be a major player, however there is no denying that it looks like that TPV is going to be one too. Like I posted last night, it looks like we’re going to have a lot of big swings in temperatures in the coming weeks… it’s almost got a late February/March 1989 feel to it.
I don’t really recall that period but I do remember an ice storm, though that may have occurred in Jan

There were two major winter storms within a few days of each other. The first one occurred on Friday and Saturday of President’s Day weekend and came after widespread 70s and lower 80s the day before… it put down significant amounts of snow ice and for most of NC and the SC Upstate. After warming back into the 60s for a couple days, the second storm came in on the following Thursday and Friday and was a major snowstorm for the eastern 2/3rds of the Carolinas… parts of northeast NC got over a foot. The rest of the period through about early April had big temperature swings.

Dang, so Georgia missed out on both ?

No I’m pretty certain northern GA got in on both… I know ATL at least a couple inches from the 2nd one before it turned into a coastal
Parts of northeast GA just across the state line had up to 6 inches of snow I think from the 2nd one. The 1st one would have only hit areas north and northeast of Athens I think.

So I wanted to do a quick check. I've never found the Farmers Almanac to be very accurate, desite their claims of being 80 to 90 percent accurate (yeah right). Looks like they couldn't have been more wrong for the Eastern US this year.

LOL!

Idk guys. It was pretty nice getting my seeds started yesterday. Hopefully mby won't freeze again but I'm sure it will just to ruin everything

Several folks spend a lot of time rooting for mild winters around here, but the consequence of the new pattern and the nice warm winters is to throw in a few freezes in early spring and then spend a good portion of spring in a cool, CADdy state.

Just leave my mater plants alone mean Mr winter !

That’s IF a negative NAO shows up. Aside from a transient one, I’m not so sure.

If anybody is looking for some decent Made in USA(NC) outdoor furniture. Just built a few chairs, seem very solid.(20 year warranty) Wood furniture rots, metal furniture rusts so needed something in between. Found some very discounted at home depot too. Haha feels like a paid promotion

Don’t put em in ground before April . April 15 if the first half of April does not look warm. I love spring .
My dad's granny always planted on Good Friday but that's too early half the time. I've waited until May a few times just to be safe. I still seem to get the first Mater around July 4th no matter.

Personally I never plant them until after April 15… even in warm springs it always seems like we end up with at least 1 hard freeze in early April

Maters can't thrive until soil temps are above 55 degrees. 65 is much better. That's why they grow so much better in May.

Not sure why anyone would be surprised by a warm February. It is the new norm and has been for a while. Just go ahead and copy and paste this February to February 2024.

Agreed. Can't remember a cold February. Starting to think our hobby in the SE is a one month party....January.
