Classic d9 trough

Probably why the gefs is slowly keeping that trough in the east longer each run is that constant Alaskan low reloading troughs and pumping a western ridge, seems like the gefs may be picking up on another episode of thatbest part about that Euro run was the trough reloading S o AK and the ridge bridging over the pole. Run is awfully warm Sun-Tue
Trough looks too far east, we tossThis would be nice in winter, see something digging down on the west side of the trough, this will possibly bring some similar weather to what we’ve had the past few days View attachment 49193

One question , if you want snow, shouldn’t you be rooting hard for a very warm winter in Dubuque ? Remember , Dubuque is dry and cold in the winter as is much of the Midwest. Their big snows happen in warmer winters and during spring. Also remember that even the warmest winter ever in Dubuque would still be like 10 degrees colder than the coldest thing ever experienced anywhere in the south outside of the highest elevations .I like my October’s cold! That bodes well for winter
Whether its a warm or cold winter in Dubuque, they still average a good bit of snow. In a normal winter (Dec-Feb), they average about 30". I wouldn't call that dry. The areas that do get more than 100" of snow in the northeast are near the lakes or in higher elevations. Boston and Dubuque both average about the same snowfall. One question , if you want snow, shouldn’t you be rooting hard for a very warm winter in Dubuque ? For snow in Dubuque you either want to root for a cold spring / fall or a warm winter .
No, but colder winters would make it drier while warmer ones would provide the moisture they need for greater totals . Given their average temps , 30 inches is actually low in the grand scheme of things . Places with much warmer winters in the northeast average 3-4 times that . Now, he may lose out on the snowpack though. Dubuque while not particularly snowy doesn’t melt much in the winter so what falls stays there for a month or 2.Whether its a warm or cold winter in Dubuque, they still average a good bit of snow. I can't think of any big city in the northeast that averages 3-4 times 30" which would be over 100". Dubuque averages more snowfall than NYC. Boston averages a foot and 2 inches more than Dubuque and it’s over 10 degrees warmer in winter ! Check out Rochester , 100 inches of snow a year on avg. For its averages, dubuque is not that snowy .Even in the mountains of N.C. it’s snowier . Boone averages some 15 degrees warmer in winter than Dubuque and still gets a few inches more each year! Even Roanoke va , 20 degrees warmer than Dubuque can manage half the snowfall they do.I can't think of any big city in the northeast that averages 3-4 times 30" which would be over 100". Those anomalies have a pretty strong CAD signature .Best September since 2017 View attachment 49195
That would be average to slightly below only as well! Bring it! Let the cold dump now !Best part about the EPS is the bounce back warm up at days 12-15 is only to 70

Be careful what you ask for. Do you really want weeks of temps failing to get out of the 30s ? Feet of snow where you have to shovel daily ?I want a cold winter tbh, warm winters have been assjuice the last 3 years, active severe wise tho, and you gotta rely on a week worth of a luck pattern, it’s so frustrating
Sounds impossible but hell yesBe careful what you ask for. Do you really want weeks of temps failing to get out of the 30s ? Feet of snow where you have to shovel daily ?
In my mind it's more like, what are the odds we get like 6 months straight of well below avg weather? not much right? so let's get a nice 2-3 months below now.....I know that doesn't mean much though.I honestly don't think the temp in September and/or October tells us very much about the winter. I like a cool fall. We haven't had one of those solid cool, crisp autumns in a long time, it seems like.
So whatever winter has in store (which will probably be warm, because that's what winters do now), I will take as much of this kind of weather right now as I can possibly get and enjoy every last minute of it.
Yeah, I'll trade out a cool Fall for a warm Spring this year...I honestly don't think the temp in September and/or October tells us very much about the winter. I like a cool fall. We haven't had one of those solid cool, crisp autumns in a long time, it seems like.

Isn’t the favorable MJO different during different seasons? Like 1,2,8 are good in winter, but the results of those phases in spring fall and summer are not favorable for cool/cold?It’s worth noting this upcoming possible cold dump is gonna happen in a relatively unfavorable phase of the MJO

Go for itAlmost time to fire up the October thread. Maybe we should stick with hot-themed titles so it stays cool.
Agreed. Give me all the cold and snow. I don't know why people hate it when probably 80 percent or more of the year has highs above 55 and 10-20 percent or more depending on location is 90+I do.
