It just seems bizarre to me that we have statues of former Confederate Fighters against America in the halls of Congress. What other country puts statues in their Center of government of people they fought against especially people that committed treason?

I usually say leave it up to the city/state that it’s in to take them down or not but I’m totally against the idea of changing the names of our military bases.

I want to laugh but it's really sad the man is not well

Yeah, he appears to not doing well in that way. To compound how it looks though, he also has a speech impediment (like a stutter?) which may be making him seem worse mind-wise than he really is. I hope that's the case.

The Klan was just in my town recently defending a statue and flying rebel flags in front of a school that used to be all black. They were also armed when they protested in Hillsborough
I was very angry about that .

Most were from somewhere else and there wasn't a full set of teeth or vocabulary in the whole bunch.

Some how, even though the noise could be heard from both the Chatham County Sheriffs office and the Pittsboro Police station. When they hooked that truck to that flag pole and drug it through the streets not one word was said nor was anybody questioned.

Bye Felicia

I was proud of my county and town on that day.

The level of insanity is increasing at an alarming rate. I would suggest to everyone right now, identifying what is of value to you, what is important, what items you don't have (or have much of) and start stocking up on things you need and developing a plan to protect what you have. Things are going to get crazier as the economy languishes and all of the typical diversions remain totally or partially unavailable.

The amount of lunacy pouring out now is staggering. It's amazing to see how rapidly things escalate when mob mentality takes over. It's probably going to get much worse. I hope folks get prepared.

You’re right. COVID has nothing on what’s going on and about to take place.

I think it's fueled the fire some, though, as most of the usual social outlets have been taken offline. Though the disease is serious for some, the real and lasting impacts will be felt in the realms of the economy and social order.

Sage advice sir, If you need anything in the future you know where I am.

The past few weeks I’ve heard, if we are going to make a change you have to vote. Everyone should vote, but I reflect back and ponder on what did Obama, the first African American president, do to help improve race relations?

Until basically 60 years ago, for the entire history of the US, racism has been just one-sided.

Hell redlining was and is still in effect to some extent today and was widespread even in the 80-90's.....

for those having trouble understanding how different things are at a base level for whites vs blacks in this country I suggest watching this....

I get the need to be prepared but j swear I must live in a different universe. Nobody I have interacted with over the last 3 months gave me any indication that they were stressed or tense or anything. People I bump into are 99.9% jovial laughing and just happy.

It's about the same where I am too with no sign of real trouble. Right now the real craziness is in the bigger cities, but I'm afraid it will start to spread.

Life's different in the country, man. That's all I can say.

Now, but....The virus is showing signs of reemergence. This is going to be exacerbated by the mass gatherings going on now and on the horizon.
This resurgence has the possibility of quarantining the country again. Either by order or by personal choice. This will throw the economy into a devastating tailspin. Couple that with major supply issues and you start to see what CR is talking about. The irony is both sides goaded each other into making it happen. Or was it irony? @Jimmy Hypocracy

I’m done with the Race talk. But why isn’t there term limits. The problem isn’t the person in the White House. The problem is congress and senate polosi shumer McConnell. And other members of congress and senate who’s been there 15.20.25 or more years. 8yrs should be the limit two 4 year terms. As for Biden he’s not gonna be doing the job I believe the VP will be doing most everything for him. And tell Biden what to say. Poor mans got dementia it’s clear as day. Who knows how bad off he be come January.

Rightly or wrongly, my guess is many will draw the line at dismantling the Washington/Jefferson memorial.

they were not perfect by any stretch. But then again none of us are. But even with their imperfections/sins, whatever you want to call it, they still made immeasurable contributions to our society.

At some point we have to recognize that these men were limited in many respects by the time in which they lived, just as all of us are.

That doesn’t make their positive contributions to our society any less important.

Without their contributions, we may never have had the ability to progress and change as we have as a society. These matters should be seriously considered in my judgement.
It is a shame these days that instantaneous, selective outrage so frequently overrides the considerations of the weight of history or the context of a situation. These monuments are not a celebration of slavery or of a culture of oppression. I'd be willing to bet less than 0.1% of people who stand before that monument are celebrating either of them as a slave owner. In fact, having the monuments there can serve the purpose of having a conversation about issues like this, while still recognizing their other impacts, which were, as you said significant to the development of our nation.

At some point the focus has to shift from blame/ past to the future and the remedies. We have all had personal situations where someone we cared about tried to tell us something important and we were obtuse. This is one of those times. We have a chance not to be obtuse right now.

Thinking about things as far as history. And the way people trying to just simply erase it. While you can take down any monument or change every name. You can’t change people. You will always have back woods southern rednecks who gonna fly there flags. Gonna drink there beer and stay true to who they are. The heart of Dixie country is more about the people who live here then it is a monument or a symbol. A flag or a name. I guess what I’m saying is taking down monuments and trying to erase history isn’t gonna change people. So what is important is simply equal opportunity and equal rights for all legal us citizens. That should be the focus because your not gonna change people beliefs no matter what you do.

If you want to wear a confederate flag on your clothes etc you can no one is saying you cant do any of that, just dont be upset when people make assumptions about you or your belief.....however publicly/federally funded locations should remove confederate flags/monuments etc, maybe put them into a museum or garden type location so those that want to view them can. As for corporations they need to do what is best for their brands and that's up to their leadership but we all know what they should do.....

I dont think we should erase history either, but don't glorify those who attempted to destroy our nation primarily over the rights to retain the practice of slavery. The folks going after Washington and Jefferson etc are going to far IMO, these men were not big on slavery etc in fact they were fairly vocal against it, however both men also owned hundreds of slaves so I mean I can understand why some people see them as hypocrites.....Washington upon his death for instance freed all his slave in his will....and included a clause that all the older freed slaves be cared for by his estate.....however asking why he did not free them before his death is a valid question IMO.

Equal rights is already guaranteed and should apply to everyone regardless or race, religion. gender, sexual orientation, etc....and lets face it we are not anywhere near there as a society yet...

These people proceed to break the law, and then say looks at the cops as if the cops are doing something wrong. What the hell do expect if you damage a police car? They are also saying this is a “peaceful” protest. Hey let’s bait the cops into having to take action then get mad at them for doing their job. Clueless

You make very valid points that I’m not gonna argue with. But when you mention society that’s more the different walks of life’s we have. You not gonna change a person so we are always gonna have a society divide I think. You gonna have people with different opinions and beliefs rather they be wrong or right.

Yeah let me smash the windshield of a moving cop car with my skateboard then cry about it when I get my ass kicked. Anarchists
