This looks like a pretty big storm shaping up for the Christmas holiday, should be fun to track.
While not a perfect analog by any stretch, looking at 500mb charts you may want to throw 12/16-17/2000 as an option.

Pretty snarky of them given the lead time and variables in the mix, IMO.
I'm pretty sure that's a on average chance (yearly) that u you could see a white Christmas. I've seen that map before from gsp years ago.

We may not get a storm but the most anomalously cold 850s in the world on Christmas day is pretty awesome. Blocking, Cold Bursts, sure we could always have improvement, but I consider this all pretty fortunate. I won't be wearing flip flops and tank tops.

Is the icon more accurate than the gfs?
The GFS has snow from an Anafront setup, while no other model does. Therefore it is wrong.

To be fair anafrontal setups aren’t ideal anyways so you would likely be disappointed anyways

difference with the way the icon/gfs handle the energy Is pretty big in Canada and has a large effect on the second system 
GFS is digging the energy a bit more this run.

Eh I don’t think they are that drastic Gfs still shows severe weather just some back end snow too but I think it’s clear now someone is going to see severe weather in the SE and it looks dangerous
