Pattern May: gateway to everyone's favorite season

Mid 50s showing up across Watauga/Ashe and gusty winds. Could be a bust tomorrow on high temps if iso lift rains and fog persist.

NAM looks severe tomorrow for NC Piedmont. Not sure if it will be that widespread..

Has to be flooding big time in Louisiana this morning, radar looks like a inland tropical depression sitting, spinning over them with 40dbz+

Unless you're a fan of SE ridges, don't look at the 12Z GFS extended. I'm thinking about taking "Gateway to" out of the thread title.

Before Mr. Ridge tries to take back over, Tuesday is looking decent for a comfortable day of walking for many. First in awhile. Wed may be ok, too, with low dewpoints possible though it will be hot.

You weren’t lying about the GFS, Only when the ridge is just starting to build, running out of days with hot/dry weather, humidity really bout to start taking control these next few weeks4E1DF6E3-D6A6-40FB-9063-0BB4B11CF5AF.jpegA549859C-54AB-4BE9-B50A-91DB62C152D4.jpeg

Maybe it’ll be wrong, or is it only wrong about cold and snow?

Well, unlike most of the other models/ensembles, it has had no more than a small cold bias. So, I have more hope for it to be wrong than otherwise would be the case. However, trends since last autumn suggest SE ridge will prevail.

Larry,
One of these years, if not days, someone will convince you that walking to wake up birds is a great summertime sport ...

Phil, I know you walk then and enjoy it, but the high dewpoints would still make it too uncomfortable for me to be interested. It is the dewpoint more than the temperature as even 80s with low enough dewpoints can be fine. I'd prefer 85 with a 50 dewpoint over 70 with a 65 dewpoint. Also, I'm not a get up very early and go walking kind of guy.

Absolutely. The dewpoint is everything. It was 70 here recently with a dewpoint in the mid 60s and I was uncomfortable.

A line of general t'storms has formed ahead of the MCV over Alabama. Should be moving in shortly.

Getting a fair amount of lightning and faint rumbles of thunder now.

I'd invite a trade, but if such a thought came from the other direction, the answer would be "No" ... Good job, Brent! Bottle some up and save it!

Yeah all too soon its gonna be endless heat

I really hate summer too

Summer just lasts too long in the south, much like winter lasts too long in the north. It would be nice to live in a place that got 3 months of each season, if such a place exists.

The core of the winds passed just to the south of here, over Newnan's airport.

The gust reported at 11:55pm was 35 MPH, but it seems as though the highest velocity was still on the other side of I-85.

Hope im wrong but have that old fashioned feeling that today is going to be a dud where our instability is cut down by clouds from the system passing to our W and NW. Better instability in the coastal plain will favor renewed afternoon storms there.
