950mb and a solid cat 3 looks like a good bet, but it wouldn't take much to get it to a cat 4.

Just a note that this was well prior to the 10am CDT advisory, and Twitter comments note that this was actually a typo and/or flagged readings, and was not used in the advisory. Just wanna manage expectations with this...

I agree, last night it took a western wobble( I think it adjusted for the separation caused by Cuba) but now it definitely seems to be more NW than WNW in movement. on the Northern side of the guidance . It should turn even more North as it draws closer to landfall. It is difficult for sure to track right now via satellite imagery without a defined eye ,so I think in a few more hours when a defined eye develops it will be easier to track.
If you live in the Carolinas here is what you can do now. 1) fill up gas before the prices go up 2) clean storm drain debris 3) have batteries and flash lights ready to go in case weak tornadoes knock the power out 4) stock up on essentials/medications that do not need refrigeration
If anything she will end up going more west towards Galveston. For those saying RI in here she has a lot of work to do on her northwest side for that to happen. She is tilted and her NW side is not forming convection that is wrapping back in. She may steadily strengthen but I would say not to expect much of any RI until maybe late tonight.
In addition she is right over the top of the cool eddy I mentioned yesterday in the Gulf.

Yikes. The super ensemble mean knows where the state borders are. Directly over Tennessee line before sagging a little south into Ashe County, NC. Finally some exciting weather to track for severe enthusiasts.

Jeez you really think the Carolinas is gonna be hit hard it sounds. I think we see heavy rain for sure. Maybe a isolated tornado but hopefully it’s in and out fast whatever rain we see

The last major hurricane to do this “sharp steady right turn” was Camille. 27” of rain in less than 8 hours in parts of Virginia. Over 150 people died in this region.

The track does look very similar to Camille. Of course Camille made landfall further east.

Looks the the NRV of Virginia could get a pretty good hit.
Change of tone today. Get those NOAA weather radios ready looks like a nighttime threat for the Carolinas. Brad P: “If we see a shift of the track closer to us and slower then we might see more rainfall Saturday. Stay tuned for now if we see a closer approach Saturday we could see more storms and even a severe risk especially if we see some cold front interaction as it sweeps in late Saturday #cltwx #ncwx #scwx #wncwx

Looking at last nights Euro it appears part of the problem is a little dry air is being fed from the circulation of Marco into the west side of Laura. The Euro shows this issue slowly waning and pretty much eliminated twelve to eighteen hours before landfall.
