Wind has picked up since 1030 or so. Starting to gust from the N/NE and actually drifting the snow. Very little on roofs because it’s all blowing off.

CAE had a brutal cut off with the band. Unfortunately I was on the wrong side of it. Ended up with just shy of an inch. Bummed a bit since it snowed for 7-8 hours & didn’t even add up to an inch, but hey at least it snowed. Areas just East of CAE will probably end up with a few inches. Good luck to everyone else. Enjoy the ups & downs of tracking it. But admittedly it’s a storm I’ll look back on with annoyance lol night crew!

There's a curfew here until at least 1pm tomorrow. I have a feeling many people won't be leaving their house until at least Thursday afternoon. The overnight low temps are gonna make it hard for all of this snow to melt quickly.
Sun and insolation and the radiation on the blacktops, will do wonders on snowpack, no matter the temps!

Having a 27 degree sleet storm is a new one for me. I don't think we got any sleet at all in 2018. Every other snow we've had has been pure snow or freezing rain/snow. We probably get 3 more extra inches of snow if the sleet was snow. It was good thunderstorm level sleet.

Still time to salvage something though

I just went out and took some “official” measurements and got a tad over 1” in NE Chapel Hill, NC. I’d just go for 1”, though. I honestly thought it was a little more from eyeballing it, but I think it just seems that way because of how we have 1” literally everywhere. Usually, we end up in a situation where we have 3” on the grass and 1” on the roads, for example, but here it’s consistent accumulation across all surfaces because of how cold it is.

I’m curious what RDU ends up with. I’m about 12-13 miles WNW as the crow flies, so I expect they’ll end up with a little more than me, but it shouldn’t be too different. I’m not super confident in my measuring abilities and don’t have a snowboard or anything, though.

The irony is that we probably busted “low” on some of the QPF forecasts from the NAM, etc. but ratios were great.

Taking an hour-long Jeb Walk made it special, too. I didn’t get to take one in the storm the other week until we’d already switched over to ZR which really sucked the joy out of it lol.

Spot on about the equal distribution comment. Only got a little under an inch, but because it was so consistent on every surface, it looks like a 3 inch storm.

The Great Tallahassee Sleetstorm enters it's 6th hour with no end in sight.

The RAP and HRRR both advertised 6+ inches of snow, but so far, have only seen a few flakes mixed in.

Still, allegedly, .5 of QPF to go by 4 a.m. but the radar returns are so heavy right now it couldn't possibly be anything but sleet.

It's funny how expectations work -- if I had known it was going to be a sleetstorm I would have been pumped about it -- but the false hope of snow really puts it all in different perspective.

All this WAA has me back up to 30.4F with heavy sleet.
