Wintry January 21-23 2025

Finished up here a few minutes ago. We made at an inch but fell just short. Finished with 0.9”. The one thing that I think we can all say from this storm is that big snowstorms are still possible for those of us east of the mountains after what the Gulf coast experienced today. It will be interesting to see now how quickly skies clear now. Areas with just enough snow to cover the ground could really bottom out tonight with just a couple hours of clear skies.

Feels like my forecast is doing well for central NC at least. A little nervous for my forecasts for eastern NC. My Charleston forecast is probably toast, but 25-30 miles inland should be fine reaching 4-6" I promoted. Also nervous about my Midlands SC forecasts (I had 2-4" for Columbia).
Good call over this way. I think I’m really close to 1.5-1.75”

The roads by my house are so bad we have helped 8 people who were stuck up the hill and one guy ran off the road.View attachment 166649
One of those folks name wasnt Lookout by chance was it? Wonder what ever happened to that old poster. Guy knew soundings like no ones business and hated Glenn Burns with a passion. How we all outside of GA, learned who Glenn Burns was.

Had a chat with my NWS friends from southern region. Was told that they had 24:1 snow ratio at times in New Orleans and 20:1 snow ratio at times in Mobile.
That alone without the insane totals the got would have made this storm so odd. You wouldn’t ever think that towns along the Gulf coast could ever see ratios anywhere close to that. I’m guessing their past snowfalls in those areas we typically like around 6-7:1

I got basically a coating on everything.
It's not half an inch but it quit snowing here around 6.
So 2 hours of very very light snow.
It's not cleared up here,
In fact it's still cloudy.
If it does clear,
Your right it will be interesting how much the temp drops.
During the last snow storm a couple of weeks ago once the mix stopped,
It was supposed to clear and drop.
It didn't!
Each storm stands on its own merits,
So anything is possible but I'm not sure we are going to have this massive drop in temps after this but we'll see!

At the halfway point of expected precip and it has been all sleet and freezing rain here in TLH, save for a few snowflakes mixing in.
My temp is down to 29.8F and I've had .41 inches of liquid. A thick coat of sleet covers the ground.

Still holding out hope for a late changeover -- was hoping to break the record of 2.8 inches -- that can still happen with a changeover by midnight. Incredibly heavy returns about to move in, but assume they will be too warm at the midlevels.

Is it possible for something to be amazing and disappointing at the same time?

All done but the crying here in the temp home Augusta, Ga. 3 inches

Actually, some bigger flakes here now, but I can't imagine that there's much longer to go (I am also on the far southside of the area).

Pretty surprised when I pulled back the blinds to look (I also left the light on, which I'm sure my dad will be delighted about). I was about ready to call it and shower and go to bed, but I may stay up a little bit longer.

I really didn't think I'd experience a cold snow in the southeast similar to January 2014 again, but I have.

Hang tight, TLH went to snow!

Down to very light snow. I think it's over. There are some (back) building returns east of Charlotte but I think that would help folks south/east of Raleigh. This was a good winter storm. All I could have hope for from a couple days back. Heck from yesterday...
