Getting some virga in SE AL

I think you are correct, almost always is but also we don't need it to keep shifting SE either... think it's just zeroing and probably not lose it completely. It is tightening up the gradient, NW side of Halifax Co. gets <1 while SE corner gets 4".

The 3km is almost on top of the EPS...what it's spitting out seems reasonable but I do think the .1" line probably is back to GSO

EPS mean is usually fairly good. The event 10 days ago the EPS was showing .25" (give or take) and RDU got 0.51".

3km NAM has an absurdly tight gradient in Alabama and parts of west central GA. You could be 5 miles away and literally know snow is falling for hours while you're on the outside looking in if your area sets up on the dry side of the precip. shield. This is still a nowcast event for sure.

Can anyone confirm any ground truth in parts of Mississippi that are above the main band? I just looked at the webcam out of Natchez and it looks as if they've only gotten a slight dusting on the grass and buildings.

I like what I am seeing downstream with these reports out of the midlands. I wonder if it holds here and we get snow earlier than forecast.
This is usually how it goes with wintry events it feels like. But I think we are going to have quite a lot of virga tracking today

Doing some cross checking on forecasts vs. actual obs.

Larto, La. jumps out .. forecast: 1/2 inch; actual right now 2.0 inches on ground and still snowing.
Similar with DeRidder, La. (far eastern central La.). Less than inch forecast, 1.5 inches on the ground.

Be careful doing that as places that are very uncommon for snow were likely under-forecasted. Your best bet is to look at modeled snow output vs actual obs. These places you mentioned consistently fell within the 4-10" range on almost every model.

Same airport we had a long layover back in early August because the extreme heat was causing the runway to crumble in places. Talk about weather extremes lol
