We're unofficially on the board in NC w/ our first snow/ice map of the season.

Randolph County was under the first Winter Weather Advisory for the season. I’m still hoping for two Winter Storm Warnings and at least one more advisory event to call it a good winter. Definitely want to avoid a big ice storm and get an all snow event too! I think it’s doable.

Yeah, it is going to be just like last year this time around. Everything suppressed. Maybe we can get something later in Jan or into Feb.

GFS incoming at the very end of the run. Looks just like the CMC Ens run this morning with wave moving from Cali to TX as trough is still hanging on along the east coast
Another one I would’ve loved to see the end result of.

If this comes in like this it'll be a big hit. The cold air with this would not be going anywhere fast with a 1038MB high in NY state.

Haha look at the snow map at the end of the run. EVERY state but Florida has some snow cover. That's cool cause Florida doesn't deserve anything nice.

As others have pointed out, pretty big nod to the EPS on the GEFS the last 2 days.
Trending to a much more favorable looking pattern here, w/ the vortex beginning to roll across the Great Lakes. Once that gets to New England & Quebec, we'll have to really watch for southern stream waves underneath

If eastern Canada and the northeast get as cold as these maps are showing, someone will get a MAJOR icestorm, if not a snowstorm out of it. That is someone in Tenn, AL, GA, and both Carolinas.

Works out great for Tupelo also… I’ll take it.
This past decade is very underrated for snow but we are for sure over due for big ice at least in my back yard.
Each of the big 3 ensembles are currently dropping the wave/trough to the east of Seattle <AND> moving the TPV under the block west to east at a reasonable pace (not too fast) across S Canada/along the Canadian/U.S. border. That's about as good as we can hope for at this point in the game given our starting point. We're in good shape at the moment

The 12 GFS run never really moved the full trough into the E U.S. Good to see it do that this run. Here is a comparison of the 2 runs for Jan 19
Not to change the celebratory times in here, but on another note, through six days of January my numbers are:
Average High: 47.6
Average Low: 30.5
Average Temp: 39.0
5 of 6 nights below freezing
Its probably been 2018 since I’ve had this solid of a start to January.

My average is 39.4 so far. 3 out of 6 nights below freezing though one was really close.
This bodes well for our agriculture if we can keep it up. Delaying an early bloom for the first time in years could lead to a bumper crop this year. We don’t need to be well below normal. Just cold nights and decent days.
