Tropical Hurricane Zeta

Zeta is still jogging NE... and notice the slight wobble that almost appears to go ENE to E, according to the latest GOES satellite image. This may actually end up going a little bit east of the forecasted track. And as [mention]Downeastnc [/mention] alluded to this will have some implications to the Carolina’s/GA. Plus, this thing is getting better organized every minute.

I live in Coweta and right now the highest winds should come through between 3 and 5. We may be without power when they are scheduled to make the call. We are on EMC and often lose power in just moderate thunderstorms. And then again winds may not be that bad.

Yeah that myth has died a violent death in the past few years.

Does anyone have timing of the inland path? I’m west of Atlanta and in the bullseye of high winds. I’m kinda pumped and a little worried. Going to crack up the chainsaw tonight and make sure it’s ready. I told my wife we need to have the little one sleep in our room tonight.

This increase in strength is a bit worrisome for us in North ga. Wrf and hmon have been bullish on near surface winds (65knots at 950mb) and yet they are on the low side right now.

Edit..just to clarify they have the 65 knot 950mb winds are over north ga.

All signs point to building strength up till landfall not sure where we will end on the relative Cat. level but it's all relative every bit of wind speed bump it has at landfall the more impacting in general it will be further inland.

Something to keep in mind... since we’re seeing the pressure continue to steadily drop right up to landfall, that will have serious implications as to how quickly the storm weakens once it’s over land. A storm hitting at peak strength and still deepening at landfall will take much longer to wind down and the wind field will actually grow larger during that process. Remember 5 hours after landfall, Michael was still a major hurricane moving into southern GA. Now Zeta is not a cat 5 obviously, but it’s moving twice as fast as Michael was and is speeding up so that is going to help keep those winds going strong to the right of the track.
