Tropical Hurricane Zeta

That right here would be crazy but we know you have to cut it in half to get the real totals.
Half sounds about right , Every single storm to hit N.C. they throw out runs like that with winds approaching 90, 100 mph sometimes as far inland as Raleigh ..... has yet to happen . It’s going to be gusty tomorrow in Georgia . Honestly , doesn’t look like much of a disaster really. Just a few strong gusts . Of course not speaking for our coastal folks who will take the brunt .

110 mph landfall it appears

Observations from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft
indicate that Zeta is making landfall near Cocodrie, Louisiana.

Pressure down to 966.7 mb and flight-level winds up to 115 kts.

That is dang close to Cat 3.

So basically its making landfall close to the intensity as Opal from a wind perspective. And moving faster i believe ? So i would expect impacts to be just as bad as Opal in East AL and West GA.

Stronger. Opal was weakening at landfall, this one is strengthening. Not that this means it will be worse inland though.

Well I won’t be getting any sleep tonight. ?Good thing I took tomorrow off from work. I think where I am hopefully we’ll be ok because we fared out pretty good in Irma, I was too young to remember Opal. Of course not all effects of hurricanes are exactly the same. Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst.

I need to give my kids a heads up because they don’t pay much attention to the weather. What do you think of Max winds will be around Woodstock On the northside And around Newnan on the southside? TIA

Technically, Opal was officially a low-end Cat 3 storm at landfall (115mph).

So roughly about the same as this one.

My pressure has fallen down to 999 from 1011 mb at 8 AM. And now Zeta is coming ashore. With the NNE heading, the worst impacts should be to my west, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a few gusts to near TS force.

There’s some big differences with this though. Most storms that hit N.C. are weakening at landfall while this storm has intensified right up to landfall. Also this storm is moving extremely fast which aids in bringing stronger winds to the surface.

But even though Zeta may be moving faster than Opal i believe it will be over land longer since its making landfall in LA as opposed to FL

Wind field is pretty small though, certainly no Opal....stations fairly close to the center I have been watching don't ramp up until almost in the core around the eye....makes guessing how the wind field evolves as it moves north hard to predict....also this storm did most of its organization the 12 hrs before landfall, seems odd to me that just 30 mins ago this location had peak gust to around 50 mph, waiting for the next update as it is now only a few miles from being in the center on the SE side....
