any example of sensible weather round here on feb 87?..dont remember
Those are the kind you can step outside and just feel the ne wind pressing into the area and zr turning to sleet and then mixing with snow.

Lots of sleet in the Carolinas and a northwest NC ice and snowstorm right at the end of the month. I'm about certain Alabama missed both of these events.
I’ve got a picture of me on a sled in 87 (could be 88) or with 10-12 inches of snow in north Georgia. Not sure the month.

We got sleet in Feb 1987, but that was mostly from Greenville and east. This was a monster CAD event which was actually a forecast bust since it was supposed to be rain here. All of upstate SC got a decent snow event in Jan 1987, especially from Greenville to Gaffney and north. We actually came close to getting a major snowstorm in April too, but that ended up staying in the NC mountains. That event nailed Birmingham AL though with 6+ inches of snow.

Probably either Jan 1987 or Jan 1988. You may have been far enough north to get the April 1987 event too.
87 seemed like a pretty good year, particularly for northern and western sections.

In all honesty, I think we’re moving the pieces in place the first five-ish days of February for us to have a run through the end of the month and maybe into March.
Didn’t one of those February ‘87 storms give Raleigh something like 6-8” of sleet?
Yes there it is on the 16th and 17th. 8” of mostly sleet near RDU. The most I’ve ever seen of pure sleet was January 1996 at 3.5”… I can’t imagine what that ‘87 storm was like
1987 was a banner year for GVL North.
I know Anderson got a good snow in Jan.
GVL got a foot..
We had a big sleet storm in Feb.
First time we got snow in April in my life that year also.
85 N got an Inch the closer you got to the NC border in GVL county the totals went up drastically..
Parts of the NC mountains got 2-3 feet.
I'm very surprised at the lack of video or even pictures from any of the storms of 1987.
Mt Pisgah had WLOS transmitter on top,
Got over 30 inches if memory serves in that April storm.

Yea that sleet storm in 87 was a monster. It was like walking in beach sand. The sleet was around for weeks too.
If I recall correctly, wasn’t that a cold event up here? I only know what I’ve been told as I grew up on the opposite end of the state.
