How well has the FV3 GFS handled snowstorms so far?

The CMC is a dumpster fire too
It’s just weird in how the low pressure moving. Maybe I not seeing something right. Oh well on to the next run!! We will see what New Gfs has to say here in a few.
It hasn’t. I think it came out beginning of this year.

Should be interesting to follow the FV3 throughout this winter in tracking storms then.

Its replacing the gfs soon so we'll see
The FV3 is still experimental. It will be operational sometime in 2019. Who knows, it may perform better than the GFS OP.
It can’t make up its mind if it wants to cut or not. Weak HP in the middle of the country screams cutter through. Hopefully we don’t trend away from a strong High pressure

Me too. It is 9-10 days away so there is going to be a a LOT of changes in the models.

It looks like a fairly sizeable system, and one that packs a little punch. If that low cuts west, could we be in a severe weather threat?
Yes very possible.
I thought that was strange as well. I just don't see why the low will cut, or track north of the Gulf coast with a strong arctic high to the north. It seemed like the low wanted to track south there for a moment at hr 210. I think the 0z GFS "goofed" out.
Maybe the GEFS will bring some clarity!
Since it is 9-10 days away, anything is possible.
Well one thing that doesn’t help. It’s hour 210!! Lol. I start believing come about mondays 0z runs.

Yes. We will know for certain it will cut when the ensembles come out. That’s the kind of clarity I need
