Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

One of my crews has been working this weekend fixing rooms in the ED of a large hospital to help prepare. I asked him if it was a madhouse and he said it’s business as usual. No panic or crowds yet. I know the worst is yet to come but that is a good sign.

I don’t know if we need it to or not. Jon’s post earlier dealt with this a little. We need a good chunk of the population to come down with so we can get some sort of herd immunity.

I think best case, it continues to spread through summer yet at a less deadly state to give some sort of immunity by fall. Maybe the heat and UV can help make that happen?
 
More people died today in Italy than any day in China. Spain had more today as well. More deaths from the virus outside of China than there was in China total in a few days

This is quite a bold statement, there’s no way a virus that causes a respiratory infection and spreads in the way the flu does will disappear in one summer, sure it may calm down (like H1N1 did, but it’ll likely still spread during the summer a bit, but it’s likely gonna be a our new seasonal virus as time goes on

My hope is a vaccine will come fall/winter as the virus peaks again. That timeframe seems possible.

Important!!
I have a relative who works under Dr. Fauci at the NIH who says that he would not be surprised if the country goes under lockdown. He says that a fellow who works at the Pentagon has been issuing folks on the inside to stock up on 30 days worth of resources and there are already plans in place to shut the country down and not to be surprised that this happens very soon since Dr. Fauci works very close to the president.

Edit: I would like to add that since there is no official announcement, this may not be true and it is just speculation at the moment.

I think the panic buying and hoarding is just irresponsible. There is not enough supply for everyone if people go out and buy m.k ore than usual. And it hurts those that are at the largest risk with the virus, the elderly. They usually have a harder time just going out and spending a lot of money to stock up on things. I think local governments and stores need to limit the amount of things people can buy, and have a system set up where people can shop on certain days based on their addresses.

worst case incoming for the US. The world economy is going to be trashed and I’m predicting tens of thousands dead in the US. We waited too long to implement measures to stop the spread. Not enough ICU beds, not enough ventilators. Could be hundreds of thousands dead worldwide. Buckle up. good luck everyone.

Yes....I have a connection there with yankee white clearance. Now that you spilled it I dont have to. Its a strong likelyhood for 2 weeks. To what extent it entails i dont know right right now.....

And then when the stores are forced to close and everyone mandated to not go out, all those needed supplies that were never purchased will be useless. Also some of us have purchased enough to take care of our families and our stubborn parents who haven't prepared.
 
If there’s a country lockdown. What do ya do if you run low on food? Would we be allowed to get out to buy food?

Worst case scenarios laid out by scientists are even worse than what I posted. There are facts and if requested I can link some tweets and such that support what worst case looks like. We are lagging about ten days behind Italy. It’s full on Wuhan measuses over there now. Sure I could be wrong but I don’t think opinions are banned from this thread. If so I’ll adjust my postings in the future.

I feel like we were still able to get ahead of the curve ..... I feel as though now I am just waiting for something to happen. I have enough stock for 4 weeks of food and most importantly bathroom supplies. Most of us started getting ready when we first heard about this in China.

I work with kudzu staffing in a long term position in school cafeteria in sc. so no I’m sure I will not be paid since I’m not permanently hired by the school district. But oh well we will survive

Well at least The government is going to pay all these people’s bills that are working less hours and making less money. I will be one of those eventually
