As people see this spreading around them and various businesses start to encourage people to work remote, schools close, etc people will react to that with panic... it just seems to be human nature. Just look at how the stock market has been so volatile lately, going up 1k points, down 1k points and back up and down the past few days. If people stocking up causes grocery stores to have shortages of food and the supply chain cannot keep up with that demand, shortages of food and inevitably panic would follow as well. It's also possible in the next couple of months this thing slows down or doesn't seem to be that bad here and things level out but it's best to be prepared just in case.
