Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

"Red tape" = federal and state laws & regulations. Those simply can't be swept aside with the wave of a hand (especially state laws; Washington DC has little power over those).

I understand and agree with you. But the message keeps changing and these steps could have literally been taken over a month ago.

No I was actually asking YOU!

And I wasn't talking about how it affects me. I know I could have the virus and not know it, and go around spreading it to someone else who could end up dying from it. That's the danger and why there is no overreaction to how serious it is, and why you can't just think about yourself unless you don't care about anyone but yourself.

Then self quarantine.... it's not that difficult

I agree you should do that if you are sick. But you could have the virus and be spreading it to others without having symptoms. I was speaking to people saying there is an overreaction to the seriousness of it. It might not be serious to you, but it could be to someone else. That's the reason for canceling everything.

People need to understand Trump did not call the coronavirus itself a hoax but rather the attempts by democrats to politicize his response/actions. Snopes and other fact checkers offer independent confirmation of this. Link

What's True
During a Feb. 28, 2020, campaign rally in South Carolina, President Donald Trump likened the Democrats' criticism of his administration's response to the new coronavirus outbreak to their efforts to impeach him, saying "this is their new hoax." During the speech he also seemed to downplay the severity of the outbreak, comparing it to the common flu.

What's False
Despite creating some confusion with his remarks, Trump did not call the coronavirus itself a hoax.

The legislation, as it stands now, includes provisions for free testing for coronavirus, bolstering of unemployment insurance, paid medical leave for those out of work due to the disease and additional money to ensure children continue to get subsidized lunches if schools close.

He may have been touching before he even had symptoms and got tested. Don’t be so quick to judge. Sounds like people avoiding the Chinese when this started. There is no place for judgment and freaking out. I not saying it’s not dangerous but name calling and panic will not get us anywhere.

He knew the virus was going around and was joking about it and touching everyone and their stuff on purpose. That is stupid.

I can already see it happening. Someone at NBA game last night will get it and sue the NBA for getting it. Part of the it’s everyone else’s fault society.

Money over people as usual.

No but who cares?

I know I’m not positive and I’m not purposely joking around and touching everyone’s personal belongings. That was reckless. No reason to try and defend that...
I agree but you can get it by being in same room. As articles have said it’s airborne. Also we don’t know if others in that locker one were also joking. We’re hearing one side of story. I’m sure many were involved.
Reminds me a week ago where the couple from Canada was removed off a plane because their 20 month old was coughing and the others on the plane freaked out. As someone already said. When God is ready for you then nothing can change that. No avoiding people or going and living on a deserted island. We ALL have an appointed time. If don’t believe in God then ALL still have a time on them.

Money over people as usual.
America's greatest flaw. When making lots of money, look the other way and pretend not to notice the moral bankruptcy. It's exactly why we have the current President ("hur durr check your 401k's and then tell me he's horrible")

I'm so sick of it. In the face of a pandemic, and proposals for free testing and paid sick leave, I've heard "Who's gonna pay for it??" more times than enough to make me sick.

Let's also be honest here, you make a good point.... while canceling events is to protect the health, in this litigation happy world we live in, it may also be a way to avoid costly lawsuits later. I'm sure both were factors in decisions

2010 - swine flu IN AFGHANISTAN! They treated me with high dose Vitamin C. Despite the fact that I tried to jump out the window at our berthing quarters I came out ok and was back fighting in a week and a half. I think I will be ok this go around too....
Awesome! Great for you! Want a medal for it? Unfortunately, the world does not revolve around YOU. There are many, many people that can get seriously ill from this. I'm worried for my own grandparents who are immunocompromised. Maybe you won't get sick, but just cause you won't, doesn't speak for the rest of the population.

There is no overreacting to this. We deal with this hard and swiftly, and every suspension and cancelation done in response to this outbreak is done to slow this thing down.

There is always more to the story....

McCarthy said there's two "major problems." First, creating a paid sick leave program through the Social Security Administration that would take six months to set up and hamper the agency’s normal functioning of disbursing checks to senior citizens. The second is forcing permanent paid sick leave "for all businesses without exemptions and no sunsets," McCarthy said.

Totally agree.

And not sure why my gif reply to him was deleted.

The sad thing is if the government does everything it can to stop this from becoming a disaster and it works, people will scream overreaction
Sounds a little similar to calling a high risk and not verifying... or rather an EF5 not coming right over where they live... and then complaining that "nothing happened!!"

They did in fact start taking steps back in mid-February, but if you've ever had to deal with federal and state bureaucracies (as I have), you'd know that they move at a glacial pace.

Ok folks. It’s time to tighten up the moderation in this thread. While we don’t want this to be all doom and gloom, this virus is a global pandemic. If you don’t know anyone who’s been personally effected by the virus yet, chances are you may in the future. This can also cause tensions to run high.

Please refrain from personal attacks and jokes that are just in poor taste. Take the memes to the Whamby thread. From this point forward, we will treat this thread like a storm thread and moderate it accordingly. Obviously, we are in uncharted territory. Be smart, and be well!

Because we are starting to moderate this thread similar to storm threads, really man you don't get it by now? Just quote it and post it in the whamby thread, leave the gifs/memes out of here

Lets you and I get something straight. I don't think canceling events is an overreaction. Its actually smart. The over reaction I see is evident right here on this board. Look around you at the ridiculous panic in this group amongst you. I fully understand that my way of dealing with difficult things is different from many of you. Taking on bullet frags in combat on a couple occasions has a way of teaching you how to deal with stress. Im not trying to fight with you folks. Im actually trying to help you to understand that this isn't the black plague you are dealing with.

Just so you know. I have a daughter that has neutropenia so don't think for one second I just brush this off.

To add onto this, anything that is political that doesn't tie exactly to the virus will be deleted. Post those things in the political thread.
What is fine example:
* Articles about actions political figures are taking against the virus

What isn't fine example:
*Attacking political parties for lack of action

Also as mentioned, don't make posts personal. We are here to discuss CREDIBLE information and updates about how the virus is impacting the world, not to tell others "I handled this illness and am fine, this is no big deal" or "OMG THE WORLD IS ENDING AAAAA WE ALL ARE GOING TO DIE". We are all mature and can discuss this topic seriously. Failure to follow the rules we have in place will get you locked out of the thread.

I have certainly appreciated the content here over the past few weeks. Lots of good information. I don't know about you guys but i feel very physically prepared, but i also have spent time on the mental preparation for my family. Lots of crafts for my daughter and things of that nature. I bought lots of supplies for home improvement projects i have been putting off. Either way looks like we may all be spending more time at home, might as well use it efficiently. I have some professional exams I have been putting off, got all my study materials ready. Just a few ideas.

This! Control what you can control....eyes forward on the bigger picture. This is the type of post you need to read

ACC still going to have their tournament? NCAA? Carolina was smart to tank this year.

I’m not happy about canceling the sec basketball tournament. Georgia actually had a good first game and I thought we may have a chance to make a run but now I guess not.
