For some reason I don't think going cashless is wise

So then instead of banknotes, we all just touch the Pin Pad instead.

I think this goes to show how easily this virus can spread ... even with relation to the flu if one of your family members has the flu obviously not everyone gets the flu (although sometimes this could happen) but here it looks like anyone with close proximity to someone with the virus can easily contract it

If that’s the case Gov Cumo should get tested. I read a good article from John Hopkins talking about the Flu vs C-19. I’ll try and find it.

The situation in Italy is the most concerning to me, since it involves a developed nation with modern medical resources - not that South Korea isn't developed, mind you (I've been to Seoul and it's highly developed).

But SK is in geographic proximity to Ground Zero, with far more travelers that were going to/from China than Italy did.

Just to clarify this some:
1. As far as I'm aware, there isn't data suggesting people are getting co-infections with other viruses or bacteria. The ARDS in patients is likely reflective of COVID-19 itself and not a second process.
2. There are some drugs people are testing for COVID. The biggest two I've heard are remdesivir, which is not already on the market, and an already-approved HIV combination medication, ritonavir/lopinavir. There are more, however -- take a look at the bottom of the page: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41587-020-00003-1.
3. This is getting into the weeds, but for anyone that's curious, ECMO comes in two flavors (heart/lung or lung replacement) -- of patients who need it (data is suggesting the majority of patients don't require supplement oxygen, see the latest review from Singapore: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2762688), I would expect the lung replacement type is being used (VV-ECMO: https://ctsurgerypatients.org/lung-esophageal-and-other-chest-diseases/vv-ecmo)

This is all, of course, a moving target and an evolving situation.

An American doctor who was a professor at Wake Forest in Wuhan stated

As I said this morning that fits the narrative of China. “Oh all those people died because they were hit with a much stronger strain. It wasn’t because we bungled the response or quarantined people with medical issues without medication or cross contaminated Covid patients with the flu because of bad practices.

Now it may be true, but it fits China’s MO. Kind of like the WHO going over there and saying “We couldn’t find evidence of mild or asymptomatic cases.” when the cruise ship, Italy and SK are showing a lot.

HR manager here at work was apparently in Italy and has made her way home to self isolate for 14 days.

Iran seems to really be struggling.

Also, it's pretty amazing how travelers from Wuhan visited locations all over the globe except for other parts of China. What a great stick save by the Chinese government to prevent spread through the country.

In all my years working with military, civilian, FEMA, etc, I’ve only seen one person with ARDS survive long term. He got aspiration pneumonia from a misplaced ET when they removed it to reintubate. He was young (late 20’s). AFAIK he’s still alive today. He would be late 40’s.

I’ve seen a 50+ obese male survive bilateral pneumonia, a stroke while on ECMO and comatose after getting off ECMO. Beat all odds. Medicine is fascinating.

Italy’s problem is this and it will be our problem in nursing facilities if we have big numbers of asymptomatic cases.

If anyone is looking for hand sanitizer try Bath and Body works. They have a lot maybe too much. Don’t let the media scare you with limits going on.

University of Chicago basketball teams (men and women both) have cancelled upcoming road games for this week due to COVID19. Professional sports in South Korea are playing in front of empty stadiums and arenas due to the virus.

Who would have known that the Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, and Jacksonville Jaguars we’re ahead of the curve and had the foresight to do this prior to the breakout?

Don’t forget about the Atlanta Falcons!

We have jabronis in our office traveling back and forth to Seattle. There's about a 10% chance I don't end up with it.
Time to enact cross state travel bans, especially if it involves Washington State

What kind of idiot would actually want to travel to Seattle right now? Even if I had business in Washington state I think I could find enough reason to put it on hold for another month or two.

I wonder if we see any kind of Wake county gradient with this thing? Maybe a steep drop off in COVID-19 the further southeast you go?

If these numbers are correct, then the mortality rate is significantly higher in Italy than China. I can’t believe that. Any idea how many people have really died in China?

It makes sense, Italy is a ageing population, they live on top of each other. A outbreak is very easy that way.

We can't rely on the numbers being reported from China as accurate; Beijing is not known for transparency.

We know it’s 60 and up and people with underlying health issues. Canceling schools, events and etc is not going to stop it. It just has to run its course.
Yes but kids are running around and do the most in regards to transmission .. keeping schools open and events going will only further spread the illness to those who can be more susceptible to the virus

I understand but as we are being told it’s just like the flu. People and schools continue most of time with flu.

Yes but it spreads faster and is much more contagious.. having an entire school system with the flu isn’t an ideal situation and certainly isn’t healthy for the public by any means .. sick kids = sick professors and everyone has contacts with someone with underlying health conditions AND OR someone who is elderly .. not a good situation
