Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

I just don't see Kay Ivey announcing a stay at home order for Alabama today given it's almost 2 and no uttering of any kind of press briefing.

So we've been steady adding 20k+ everyday are we going to really see 15% of those cases needing hospitalization? If we do see that level we are gonna see a huge crush on our HC system in the next 4 to 10 days.

Well my whole county decided to go with the curfew, which I actually don't have an issue with.... again this to me is more about public safety during a time that LEO's are stretched thin as it is.

Saw this from a friend, very sobering to say the least:

I just finished my first nursing shift in New York City as a travel nurse working for a natural disaster relief company. I am working alongside of hundreds/thousands of nurses who had 24-48 hours to pack a bag, book a plane ticket, and get to the big city to get placement.

What you are about to read and see is REAL and it is RAW. This is so much more than just a virus, or your “typical” flu like symptoms. I usually keep my medical views to myself, but I feel like people need to be more aware of how bad this really is (and how bad it can get in other states/areas if not taken seriously).
I got my placement, and it is at Elmhurst Hospital- Level One Trauma Center, the place considered “ground zero”. Elmhurst is the epicenter of COVID-19 not only in New York but in America.
At 1830, I walked onto a bus with 50+ other RNs who also got placement at Elmhurst, and we took off to work our 13 hour shift. We got the pep talk of the century, but nothing could prepare us for what we were about to walk into.
When we walked in, the medical staff was so happy to see us they literally cried out in tears… doctors, nurses, therapist etc.
A 50 bed ED, but overflown with hundreds of patients of ALL ages. (It is not just your older age population like everyone thinks!)
-People of all age groups are testing positive for this virus.
-People of all age groups are having to be intubated and placed on life support.
-People of all age groups are DYING.
If that’s not enough?
-Hundreds of people are lined up outside of the ER trying to get in and/or tested for this virus.
-People are getting dropped off at the ER, and there is a no visitor policy. So loved ones are dying with just medical staff at their side.
-There have been so many deaths, the hospital has had to set up a tent outside the emergency room AND get refrigerated semi-trucks to take place as the morgue.
-There are no more ICU beds, so they are making waiting rooms/closed units makeshift ICUs.
-They have ran out of supplies, and we are working the best with what we have. They are out of pumps to run drips. They are so short on N95 mask, we only get one. They are out of body bags. They are running out of life saving medications. There are units that are out of oxygen tanks.
-One minute you are doing something, the next minute you turn around and have to start CPR/intubate a patient.
-The death rate for just this hospital is drastically climbing by the minute.
I truly have no words for what I can only call a “nightmare” for the big city. I have talked to people who have worked 911, and they said “they were open waiting for patients to come who never came, okay? Now they just keep coming”. On my bus ride back to my hotel, I prayed for all the patients, all the health care workers and for someone to find a cure for this pandemic. My heart hurts for the medical staff that has been working so hard for week, my heart hurts for the patients and their families, and my heart hurts for this City.
•I PRAY that you follow the social distancing rules and STAY home so your hometown does not end up like NYC.
(PS, so much love and appreciation for all the hardworking staff at these hospitals!!! they are kicking ass)

Let's see what Ivy has to say at this presser. Could be the order or knowing her could be telling people to wash their hands more.

Hmm, what I was told said it would be issued today and go into effect the 5th. Maybe there is something to it

My source has been wrong the last few things they’ve said . So maybe it’s coming at some point .

There is so much medical literature out there (not sure how valid, but it's out there) which basically says that non-medical masks {might} actually increase the chance of infection and/or exacerbate existing infection ... is this a "best laid plan of mice and men" situation brewing?

Everything is confusing right now

Wear a mask but not a medical one, get tested but only if you're having symptoms, whether a shelter in place order is coming or not, varying models predicting cases and deaths, it's just way too confusing.

Got a Facebook acquaintance with a very similar account. I'm afraid she will come back to Georgia with the same thing happening here.

The biggest problem with Georgia and the coronavirus, given that I think I read in here that Emory gets crowded anyway (and I think it's a big hospital like the ones near me) is probably this:

It likely would eventually funnel to the major hospitals in the state, but the big issue as of right now if this starts getting a lot worse in rural Georgia is 7 hospitals have closed recently in the rural areas.

That is true. Any time between October and April we have trouble even accessing an ICU or ED room for a matter of hours to do work in them because they stay so crowded.

Shocker, AL stay at home order effectively changes nothing. But now we have been told so Granny will come spank that behind herself if not followed.

Yeah it really changed nothing . I heard the Jefferson county health director is going to issue a much tougher one for Jefferson but that’s a rumor at this point

I was just reading it and what is designated as essential businesses is very broad. Also, leaving the house is permitted for most of the activities you'd want to do anyway. Not sure how impactful it will be.

Are you talking about the state issued or the one Jefferson county will issue ?
