Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

Not to scare anyone, but everyone mentions medical personnel getting sick, but a large majority (atleast 70%)of Water/Wastewater operators are 60+ in Alabama. Wrong situation and systems could be down quick.

Edit: as I’m sitting here on lunch, our manager just brought to us an email from ARWA concerning Covid assistance and operator pooling.

Not trying to sound ungrateful for their work but why in the world wouldn’t the water board work to phase out the old generation and move to hire a younger workforce

That’s what we are working towards at the company I work for

Well it public sector so you have to imagine that its mostly Chiefs and few Indians. 3 Standing around holding the shovel while the one < 40 is actually doing the digging.

A few reasons:

1. Some systems pay junk pay. That or you have to work there forever to make decent money. They are quickly being left behind as good operators leave for better pay elsewhere

2. The state does a horrible job at recruitment of younger people in this field.

3. Younger people are conditioned to go to college and get a desk job. Being a operator can be dirty and hard, and you have to log a year or so experience to get certified if you can pass the pain in the butt ADEM test.

My employer just emailed a letter to be printed out kept on our person should we be approached by law enforcement. Are they privy to something? NC Shelter in Place?
I cropped top and bottom. Please forgive my blackout attempt. Lol

It’s a scam that kids think they have to go to college to get a good job. Another problem is my generation is lazy AF and they don’t want to work for anything. They want everything handed to them .

Yep, I was one of them.

While that is partly true in some situations, it’s not the average worker being sick who will hurt the systems, most of the time. It’s the guys in the filter and wastewater plants and wells that will be a problem if sick.

Stuck inside? Bored? Need a diversion? Clean fun?

Governor is not present. Likely nothing new
It's standard for them, he does a presser every other day and these 2 give a sitting update on the other days.... I find it interesting that our governor does not participate in a PC every day like most states and even the POTUS does.

Yet he had time to speak with his base/sonars this morning

GA seems to be the epicenter of the south as of now. My guess is because of the size of Atlanta?
I beg to differ. Our latest numbers are 1388 confirmed cases, with 46 deaths. GA may be the second highest though.

Edit: Not sure why I get a downvote, since I don't disagree GA has a lot of cases, just pointing out my own opinion based on data so far.

Sounds like we may be starting to turn the corner getting this behind us.

Winning bigly that would be.
We haven’t even peaked yet. This is nowhere close to happening. This giving false hope to try and stabilize the markets in the short term. He knows just how bad this virus is going to get.

Trump says we could get back to normal by Easter!:eek::oops:

I felt better when Dr. Fauci was standing by the president.

You should be encouraged that Dr. Fauci himself has said Trump has followed all of his advice and has not overridden him. Here's a small clip of the audio from an interview done today with Dr. Fauci where he states that.

Here are some highlights tweeted by WMAL host Vince Congalese.

DR. FAUCI: “No, I don’t consider the balancing act… the president has the awesome responsibility of considering every aspect of this. I just give public health advice completely clean, unconnected with anything else. He has to factor in other things.
* * *
FAUCI: “…under very intense discussion. What the president is trying to do is balance the public health issues with the fact this is having an enormous impact on the economy of the country which may actually, indirectly, cause an incredible amount of harm… even health wise.”
* * *
DR. FAUCI says media is trying to “pit” him against
@realDonaldTrump

.
“That is really unfortunate. I would wish that that would stop. … there are not differences. The president has listened to what I have said…
The idea of pitting one against the other is just not helpful.”

I'm hearing rumors Forsyth County may go into a shelter-in-place situation.

County Commissioners are in a work session right now, so hopefully I hear more within a couple hours.

Sometimes 'fear itself' is bigger than what is being feared.

Trust and faith go a long way in determining positive outcomes.

Birmingham City council voting on a shelter in place ordinance this afternoon that has been recommended by the mayor.

We need to start opening back up as soon as possible. Take our chances. My nephew who is part owner of a company that does installations of major pumps and water systems and even helps repairs them all over. They can not complete projects because they can’t get supplies to do them. This shutting economy down is killing it slowly. People have it and don’t even know it. Even if you waited several months to open back up this virus would still be here and spreading. See Sweden. They are not shutting down anything and going on as normal. They are smart enough to know shutting down and economy can be much worse in long run than the virus will cause.

Just no, no. I literally cannot fathom why on earth Trump thinks we're fine by Easter. You cannot compare Sweden, which has a population less than NC. If I hear one person tell me the stock market or the economy is more important than people's lives, I am going to scream. If 20 million people end up dying in America, you can kiss any chance of our economy returning to normal in our lifetime!

Okay. So we open everything back up to save the economy. Virus spreads. How do we keep from hospitals being overrun?

As of today over 12 percent of all known infected in the world are in this country. Three weeks ago we had a handful. What will it be in three weeks?

How about we do like Cuomo has suggested and look at opening up the economy AND look at public health policy to protect those most vulnerable? Instead of one or the other find a way to effectively do both.

Your redacted letters look horrible. Take a look at how Christians In Action does theirs when someone files a FOIA request. So much neater. Plus only like 12 words aren’t redacted in a five page document.

I agree that should be something to consider, if experts believe it's viable.

And watch the economy get even worse than would otherwise have been the case. So double whammy of more infections/deaths AND even worse economy.

The money you make from going back to normal Duh. We will all be laying in beds of money
We open it up, and get more money. And then take that money to buy beds and respirators to increase capacity for hospitals to help with preventing what's happening in Spain and Italy. Is this the argument?

Do you think we have enough time to do that?

Just to highlight that this just isn’t a disease for the infirmed or elderly. Remember the name Dr. Usama Riaz. He died yesterday after contracting CoVid-19 while treating patients in Pakistan. No PPE, but he still did his job. He was 26 years old.

I think hospitals will be least of your concern when civil unrest breaks out. When people get hungry and their kids are hungry. A person will do what they must to feed their family. When there is no money to be spent then economy will not come back. So we sacrifice our kids futures to save 20k lives? I will give my life if I need to for my kids. It would be better for me to die than my kids go hungry. Life insurance will make sure of that.
