Coronavirus (Stay on Topic)

There has to be a balance found between what keeps citizens safe and keeping the states and country up and running. Its also apparent that some states/cities are doing a better job of this than others. Take NY asa prime example. The governer of NY is doing a good job working with the federal government. The mayor of NY is an a-hole with little in the way of leadership. At some point in the very near future drastic measures will be needed in that city. Its obvious that there is a high level of ignorance contributing to what is quickly becoming a serious problem
It is part of the long standing mindset in NYC that Albany(the Governor ) can't tell us what to do" I would not be surprised if it is the same in other states also . New Orleans vs Baton Rouge, etc.

Iredell County NC now up to 6 cases positive and notification is underway for those that were in contact with them. Reported 3pm Sunday

Anyway, is there anything to suggest the rumors of a shut down in NC are true?

Well for quite a while @Rain Cold and myself highlighted this risk on another forum by looking at the pathway before us. Looking at countries upstream we knew supply chains were jeopardized 6 to 8 weeks ago. We are seeing actions closer to home that are paving the way for us now. Its not matter of if it's a matter of when do we see NC shut down.

Serious question for the board... has anyone seen in their lifetime anything capable of this that is so contagious?

I've asked older family members and they all said, no. Nothing that would kill 4 family members so quickly and be able to spread that fast.

I'm curious if this is universally accepted as the worst pandemic in our lifetime. If not, what was?

Just the flu man thats all.

In all seriousness more deaths were attributed to H1N1 in 2009 but this isn't the same as that. This is so easily spread and can range from asymptomatic to death and theres no telling what the reaction from each person is. This makes it that much more uneasy for people.

Guess my question is, what will happen to all the trauma victims in a few weeks when hospitals and ER's are completely overwhelmed?

They go to a triage system. Worst get treated first. Four stages. Green, yellow, red, black. Black are dead or dying (irreversible). You do nothing for black except make them comfortable if you can. Red are immediate treatment required and they are first in line. Stabilize. Yellow are not serious but headed that way. Stabilize after the reds. Green are walking wounded. Minor treatment needed.

Lockdown for NC will take place this week. Looks like another company in NC is doing the same as mine. From a friend:

Unfortunately will mean nothing to to many of us. Our directive was made clear to report to work as usual even in states where said ‘lockdowns’ exist

does not prevent you from going to work

I should've been clear, specifically asking about tomorrow's date as thrown around by cuckoo

Shutting everything down for two weeks isn’t going to do enough to stop it

It is going to need to be at least a couple of months from all I've seen to have significant positive effects. Likely at least through May and quite possibly longer. This would reduce the chance for a sudden surge that could overwhelm hospitals. Flatten the curve. And maybe by summer one of the talked about drug treatments could be approved. Perhaps summer heat and humidity will then help. Maybe by next winter there will be an effective vaccine though that may be too optimistic. Who knows?

I got it from my CEO. Evidentially Gov. Cooper is allowing businesses to apply as to whether they are essential or not first. Step 2 is restrict travel times which again won’t affect most people or the elderly.
Up to step 2 is legit from what I've seen. No Idea about travel times

Not sure if it was posted but White House press conference at 5pm today.

Wonder if this is because the young people seem to be going out and disregarding the social distancing and are getting a high “viral load” thus making this more severe?

I could see it several different ways. The older may be heeding the warnings or it could be as you said. It could also be that 90-95% more young people infected and only are seeing the worst.

Although I definitely think viral load is something that should definitely be considered here. Maybe why so many are being sent home to not fill the hospitals with the stuff.

They are voting Monday

Starting to see the kum-by-ya disappear in DC. Went from there needs to be something done now, to let’s argue this for days, to not seeing eye for eye, to Polosi now saying the house will craft their own bill.

Maybe signs showing things are not as urgent as it first appeared.

You better believe that Congress approval rating is getting ready to drop faster than the Dow

Pelosi/Schumer is the problem. Anything Trump wants pelosi/Schumer will argue. Those two idiots shouldn’t be in office anymore

I disagree. The GOP trying to bailout the big businesses again with no reassurance in regards to stock buyouts or CEO salary increase. If big business want bailouts, they need to make sure they keep their employees and not just make a quick buck.

I think the GOP plan did it all. Gave people a check plus sink money into small business and unemployment. What’s wrong with that?

Tennessee now at 505 cases (up from 371 Saturday, 228 Friday) - should be noted that 85% of cases are younger than 60 years-old, and it's hitting 20-somethings the hardest...

In Louisiana the 40-49 age group leads all other age ranges in confirmed cases...

White House moved press briefing to 5:30 maybe some info coming soon

In several ways, this is one of the worst posts I've seen in this thread.
Maybe so but everyone would rather see the possibilities of hunger and homelessness and poverty increase. Seeing kids homeless and and hungry is not worth the possibility of it happening. 48% live paycheck to paycheck. So let’s hope they don’t lose hope and turn to civil unrest. I hope and pray this is over soon. That’s bottom line as we all do. I hope you all are right and this will be over soon and everything will be like before. No raise in poverty numbers and homelessness. The economy will be booming like it never missed a beat.

16k have died from the flu and we move on business as usual. There's tons of unanswered questions with this, there's no easy answer but I fear many do not realize what the long term effects of thousands losing their jobs will be.
This is what I’m saying. Any one passing from this is sad but more kids pass from hunger in other countries than the flu or virus. So now we could possibly be adding kids to going hungry in this nation because of this virus. I’m thinking of the future for our kids! We thought debt for college tuition was high before this. Just wait. America will need schools to be free and health care to be free because so many wo money and jobs. Economy does not come back so quickly when no one has money. These are possibilities that could happen. The sacrifice of shutting down the economy I hope is worth it.

Probably a sign that politicians put politics before people.
