People need to remember to go to car washes. Outside door handles are nasty plus if you park beside people they could have coughed on your car. Not to mention the pollen. Not to mention under your car has salt or chemicals from winter. Wash your cars people. Please share this but give me credit because I think I’m first in the nation to recommend this.

The good need is the newly approved drug combos seem to show a lot of promise, not just in the US but other countries using them too. If that continues you may see things ease up in a few weeks since they will have a way to treat people and get them out of the hospital sooner, assuming no shortage of these drugs.
Very true! This could begin to create a sense of stability and a change in spirits/attitudes that would have an effect across the boards......

It a fox fan as they can be way too much sometime but I found this interesting coming from the Dr himself

Tennessee closing in-person dining, gyms, etc statewide as of midnight tonight.

Also, Nashville closing everything but essential services as of midnight tonight

Plus you can't trust Russia's numbers imo and your right it's not an apples to apples comparison. One death is too many but percentages matter. In a country with 330 million obviously more people will be affected regardless if we're talking natural disaster or any type of virus, sickness etc. Funny we were told we couldn't compare it to the flu because it wasn't apples to apples but its perfectly fine to compare numbers with smaller countries....ok.
I understand Russia wouldn't be that truthful with the number of cases, as this would look bad. And likely there is some of this going on. But there are reasons to think that Russia may be on a different trajectory from the US and Italy. First, that country is on the whole, sparsely populated, with just a few large urban areas. Second, from what I've read, Russia took early and drastic steps to close their borders. Also, authoritarian governments can take drastic steps in the population to enforce quarantines better than the USA. Russian people also tend to be more socially distant around each other. I have personally experienced this, just going from what I've read on Russian culture.

I am skeptical of it killing hundreds of thousands in the US

The only way it kills 100k in the US is if the mortality rate proves to be very low. In this scenario most people will forget about the virus, everything will go back to normal and it will kill slowly in nursing homes and the like. If somewhere in the US turns into Italy like, it will start a feedback loop that will eventually put a cap on future deaths as people go into lockdowns willingly.

I would argue strip clubs are an essential business. Who can I speak to about this misclassification?

That's an over simplified way of saying it, for some if they lose their job and income, they may be one day in a situation where they can't even feed their family or provide all needs. That's not selfish, that's a real concern for some.

That's not what I was referring to. And I agree 100% with you. I was referring to those who are still suggesting it isn't worth shutting down the economy over something similar to the flu. They weren't talking about losing their jobs and going belly up. I understand the concern of those living paycheck to paycheck because I've been there.

Side note: I don't think anyone will starve due to covid-19. There will be food to eat.

Double side note: Yes, life may change for some. This is a global pandemic. That could happen to many as we try to save lives.

America will get through it though. And some may have to rely on their neighbors more while some may need to give more. That can be direct and through taxes.

Lockdown for NC will take place this week. Looks like another company in NC is doing the same as mine. From a friend: 4851B9C7-75C7-4D9B-B258-913591811FC0.jpeg

Today is the last day NC citizens can freely go out without any curfew hours. Starting soon there will be time restrictions to go to grocery store or pharmacy with the exception of emergency workers that CARRY documentation showing they work at Foodlion or etc.

If you read that list I can still go to work.

Link?

Checkpoints will be heavy from the city of Charlotte all the way to Mount Airy to ensure people are not traveling i77 without good reason. Those without documentation will be asked to turn around if caught outside of curfew hours (governor will clarify what hours).

14k new casss in the USA so far today, up to 38k cases now. Closing in on 400 deaths, as well.

Senator Rand Paul has become the first US Senator with the virus. He wanted to get tested out of an abundance of caution due to extensive recent travel and potential exposure. He actually was asymptomatic as of this report, which illustrates quite well why everyone needs to practice social distancing.

So that is about a 1.3% death rate in the US then. The numbers will rise dramatically in the US because we are finally testing. The main thing to watch is the deaths. While the deaths have climbed we are not at the rate that Italy is at. Plus a large majority of our cases are confined to NY and other states

Where are you seeing 38K? I'm seeing 30K

Maybe something is wrong with the site, I’m not sure.

Those in NC with any errands I would recommend completing those today. Any last minute travel outside your home County should be done by today. But no need to go grocery shopping or pharmacy because they will remain open inside curfew hours announced in the coming day or so.

Well they're more up to date than the John Hopkins map for GA. I want to fact check NY since they had that massive increase.

Bird, as always, thank you for expertise and inside scoop with all that is going on in and around the Wilkes metropolitan area.

Yeah, they’re showing a huge increase in NY (up to 22k), which seems suspicious, but then again cases have been skyrocketing there.

I think the 22k new cases is false. The official number of new cases is around 4,800. I haven't heard of any new cases in NY since the governor's press conference this morning.

I am self employed.
There is a loophole. Look at Home Depot, 99% of their product is not just selling Chinese cleaning wipes that are out of stock but because they do/did they will stay open and sell spring furniture and plants instead. Not sure how it would work with self employers but maybe including homemade sanitizer or something could create a loophole.
