Misc All Things Religious

If you folks get a chance, go on Youtube and watch some of Billy Graham's messages. Hard to imagine that he preached in Yankee stadium, Texas stadium, Tiger's stadium, just to name a few. Truly one of God's great ambassadors.
If you get a chance, say a prayer ... crowds aren't needed for God to hear you ...

You know Ive never listened to one of his sermons. Had nothing agsinst him, but Id much rather listen to D James Kennedy, Erwin Lutzer or Vernon Mcgee.

Got this all squared away. They came up to an acceptable amount, and I now have a job! Thanks for all the prayers! It has sure meant a lot!
Congrats! I’m praying it’s North of your house, so you actually may see some snow!??

Your prayers have been answered. It is in downtown Raleigh, where it snows much more than my house!

I listen to BBN (Bible broadcasting network) daily, I am so thankful that there are still good Christian radio stations which are still spreading the Gospel in such perilous times. This is an International syndicated network and you can find one of these radio stations most anywhere in the country (I listen to 91.1 out of Charlotte).
Check out their website bbnradio.org to find your nearest station, or just listen online. If you are like me, and love good Gospel music along with great preaching, (Erin Lutzer, Vernon Mcgee, Ravi Zacharias, Jimmy Deyoung just to name a few) then you will not be disappointed.

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
Thy wings shall my petition bear
To Him whose truth and faithfulness
Engage the waiting soul to bless.
And since He bids me seek His face,
Believe His Word and trust His grace,
I’ll cast on Him my every care,
And wait for thee, sweet hour of prayer!

Statue of Liberty

In New York Harbor, stands a lady,
With a torch raised to the sky;
And all who see her, know she stands for
Liberty for you and me.

I'm so proud to be called an American,
To be named with the brave and the free;
I will honor our flag
and our trust in God,
And the Statue of Liberty

On lonely Golgotha, stood a cross,
With my Lord raised to the sky;
And all who kneel there, live forever
As all the saved can testify.

I'm so glad to be called a Christian,
To be named with the ransomed and whole;
As the statue liberates the citizen,
So the cross liberates the soul.

Oh the cross is my Statue of Liberty,
It was there that my soul was set free;
Unashamed I'll proclaim
that a rugged cross
Is my Statue of Liberty!

Cross forum here ... but PLEASE say a prayer for our Republic ... today is All Saints Day ... maybe say an extra prayer for intercession ... and merciful guidance ...

Great song..... I remember first hearing that one sung when I was a teenager at Northside Baptist Church in Charlotte.

Probably belongs more in the political thread (it's why I say all the time the two are not mutually exclusive, anyway). Today Chic-fil-A decided to stop donating to the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes because of their opposition to gay marriage. Really sad, this of course means they caved to the LGBTQ activist, who will undoubtedly will say this isn't enough and demand more. You're a Christian based business, do not be ashamed of that and stand up for what is right.... really disappointing.

You feel that LGBTQ isn’t right?

As much as I disagree with those groups and the fact that Chick-Fil-A donated to them, I’ve always believed in a private business’s right to do whatever the hell they want (see cake baker case)
Chick-Fil-A serves anyone no matter their race, sex, or orientation, and that’s good business and that’s all that should matter really

They are not getting another cent from me which is sad due to how much I view them to be above other FF places. I can respect someone who gives to something I disagree with. I cannot respect someone who claims to believe sonething, and then changes their mind because someone whined about it. Hypocrisy burns bridges.

I just happen to hold to Christian values and beliefs based on God's word, including my belief that marriage should be between a man and woman as God in intended it. I'm not perfect, I sin often and ask for forgiveness often and am forgiven because God's love is unconditional. My opposition is to what God has deemed as sin not to the individuals themselves.

And I'll take that money I'm not spending at Chifila and I'll drop it in the red bucket when I hear those bells ring.

I'm seeing and reading differing opinions on Chick-fil-a's restructuring of their charitable giving. I would encourage everyone to read all the facts on the issue before assuming that they surrendered to the cultural forces around them. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't--I don't presume to know all the details that went into their decision; nor should any of us who were not a part of such discussions. I will take them at their word until they give me a reason not to.

What should be most concerning to all of us--people on the right and the left--is that a charity such as "The Salvation Army" is considered a hate group by some.

In the meantime, I'll be sure to slip a few extra bucks in the red tins as I enter Wal-Mart this Christmas season after I enjoy a chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A.

Unless their reasoning involves being forced by the government or their doors would be closed, then not sure I really care what their reasoning is. I know that doesn't sit well with you and some others but the fact of the matter is they betrayed The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army is being treated as a hate group don't have too many major organizations or businesses in their corner anymore. That's betraying a brethren and going back on your word. Yep I'll also be dropping a few more dollars in the red kettle this season but not with a chicfila sandwich in my hand or after eating one but rather with the money I didn't spend at their franchise.

I was raised Catholic and learned the Bible at a very young age. Walked away from the church a long time ago because of the hypocrisy shown in the church.

You’re in NC. A BBQ eater most likely.

Leviticus 11:8 “You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you.”

I’m sure you wear modern clothing.

Leviticus 19:19 “... Nor shall a garment of mixed linen and wool come upon you.”

If a female member of your family isn’t a virgin on their ending night.

Deuteronomy 22:13-21 “If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her ... and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid: Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate: And the damsel's father shall say ... these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. ... But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die.”

If any friends or family have committed adultery.

Leviticus 20:10 “If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.”

No sex when a woman is menstruating.

Leviticus 18:19 “Also you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness during her menstrual impurity.”

Do you eat shellfish?

Leviticus 11:10-12 “But whatever is in the seas and in the rivers that does not have fins and scales among all the teeming life of the water, and among all the living creatures that are in the water, they are detestable things to you, and they shall be abhorrent to you; you may not eat of their flesh, and their carcasses you shall detest. Whatever in the water does not have fins and scales is abhorrent to you.”

I can go on. You can’t pick and choose. Following the Old Testament teachings and picking and choosing which biblical verses to follow is hypocritical. Either be all in or not.

This is one of the most common rebuttals to Christianity and the Bible. I don't have time to walk through it point by point, but Jesus Christ was a fulfillment of the old law with the new covenant. One really needs to study the NT and consider the entire Bible against the nature of God. Listing a few things that seem hypocritical isn't a serious analysis of the Word of God and it's context. History, purpose, cultural context, and God's nature are all necessary to develop a proper frame of reference for which to understand the Bible. It isn't an easy task. Understanding the Word of God is a difficult undertaking that should be done over the course of one's life.
