Misc 2021 Spring/Summer Whamby Thread

Springs were chillier in the early part of the 1900s , that’s for sure .

So were Febs: a whopping 16 of the 23 winters 1898-1920 had colder Febs than Jans and one was the same as Jan! During that time, Feb averaged 41.4, Jan 42.2, and Dec 42.1. So, Jan averaged the least cold month for the period 1898-1920 and Feb the coldest. 1898-1920 was the golden age for Feb.

The subsequent 101 years: Feb 43.6, Jan 41.1, and Dec 43.4. So, Jan averaged 1.1 colder during 1921-2021 while Feb and Dec averaged 2.2-1.3 warmer. I wonder why Feb was relatively so cold during 1898-1920. It seems like more than a freak anomaly.

Edit: Mar, like Jan, has been colder 1921-2021 (50.7) vs 1898-1920 (51.4).

Edited for typo about Feb as it was 2.2 colder rather than just 1.2 colder 1898-1920 vs 1921-2021.

Can’t wait till it’s May/June so I can hear less about cold rain, I hope it’s a record breaking summer, 100s like no, shattering records, 600dm ridge, because **** y’all

I hope we go all summer without hitting 90. That would be pretty cool. And by "we" i mean the entire south. It almost happened in 2003.
Not happening, keep your fantasies in Carmel IN, hope the weenies roast this summer, and hope we pull off a fall 2019 repeat to top it off

RAH snowfall climo 1898-1920 vs 1921-2021

Dec 1.2" vs 0.9"
Jan 1.4" vs 2.6"
Feb 3.7" vs 2.1"
Mas 0.9" vs 1.2"

So for 1898-1920, Feb on average had more snowfall than other 3 months, combined! But since then, Feb has had less than half of the other 3 months, combined.

As much as I despise 90s+ I'd guess RDU will 90+ at least 40 times this summer. Wouldn't be surprised if we don't hit 100 though, we haven't hit 100 during summer since 2017. We'll probably be well above normal with a maximum of 98-99 and some place like Montreal will hit 100 and we won't.

Winters were also overall milder back then somehow !
