But there was to many people complaining in January
Let’s be real tho that was a good pattern, jus marginal, but technically speaking H5 was awesome with that early January pattern
If we had any cold on our side of the earth late December though most of Jan would have likely been epic

If I had to pick and choose between what we’re looking at now, and that pattern we had back then, I would easily choose the late dec/January pattern

Yep. This isn't a favorable pattern for us coming up. If the nao had stayed locked in or we had a true western ridge we probably aren't mad at the next 10 days though.

Funny how we drop a TPV then the MJO wants to go High amped into a unfavorable phase

I think the best pattern for us is a +PNA and -EPO ,Kinda like we had in the 2013/14 and 2017/18 winters. Unlike with a -NAO, the US usually gets very cold with -EPO, so not a bunch of marginal cold BS and the eastern SE actually score quite often under a +PNA/-EPO/+NAO pattern compared to a -PNA/+EPO/NAO pattern. Even through the Midlands of SC still got screwed in the 2017/18 winter, I take that winter over this winter any day.

If things don’t improve quickly, this is going to go down as the worst winter I’ve experienced since the 90s (thank God I lived in WV from 2004-2007). A complete and utter travesty. Please save us, Mega March.

Well, if the EURO is correct, this storm is toast for East of the mountains. Retreating HP and a cutter through the middle of Tennessee. Big surprise. So it's the ICON against, . . everything else, lol.

Tfw you've lost your friends, the person you love the most and winter, the one thing you were holding on for disappoints you.

Raleigh NWS disco had this to say.

5. This forecast of arctic air intrusions has been an ongoing great model failure and theme for 1.5 weeks. Models and ensembles drive the arctic air all the way to the SE Atlantic coast. Remember, there are 4-6k foot mountains to our west and northwest. The models have been horrible with driving the arctic air THROUGH the Appalachians. That just can`t happen.

Already getting iffy spots on the traffic map here 29-30 degrees with freezing drizzle

This wasn't even supposed to be an event in the metro

Tomorrow night
Isolated thunderstorms. Freezing rain.

Remember when the epic cold was coming. Now, not a single day below freezing on the EPS over the next 10.
