I can think of more times where I saw measurable snow between February 15-28 than December 15-31 around here in the last 20 years. February 27, 2004. February 16, 2013 (a relatively small event though). February 24-26, 2015. February 20, 2020. For December 15-31 I can think of December 26, 2010 and nothing else.
Don't forget December 18, 2000. Or maybe that wasnt a big snow in Raleigh ?

Agree with Dewpoint here.

Winter for the Triangle in terms of looking at the long range best opportunities has 4qtrs to me. 1st) Dec 15-31; 2nd) Jan 1-15; 3rd) Jan 16-31; 4th) Feb 1-15.

We are looking at going into the half scoreless right now.

Way down here where sig wintry precip is rare, the main "peak" in frequency of the rare winter storms is ~Feb 8-21. There have been a few sig ones even later in late Feb to the first few days of March. Our 2nd biggest snowfall on record by a large margin wasn't until March 4th!

We've had some big storms in early December and then in late February and early March. I've always thought the period from December 5th to March 5th was our time to hope for glory. But your right, if you're talking about prime time.

We have gotten decent storms >Feb 15th and even a couple in early March. Typically though they seem to be fewer and fewer as time goes by

Also not to bring up the dreaded 'sun angle' (which has nothing to do with snow storms happening in Feb/March but certainly more to do with snow pack staying power. After Feb 15th the sun angle equals what you get pre Oct 15th or at least that's what Greg Fishel once said.
