Wintry 1/9-12 Winter Potential Great Dane or Yorkie

The precipitation has turned into freezing drizzle here and the temperature has risen back to 30 degrees. If there is sufficent precipitation for ice accrual hopefully the temperature will hold steady or not drop much lower and limit the potential. I for one will not discount the NAM when it predicts a warm nose in future winter storm predictions.

Had a heavy 20-30 min sleet shower. Over now, looks like maybe some flakes blowing around.

Edit. Its definitely flurries, not drizzle. That was a pretty intense deluge of sleet that swung through here. Im guessing thermals have changed up above us as warmnose has swung through ,headed to my east with sfc low getting ready to pop off carolina coast. Be nice to get those light shade returns east of Asheville to whiten up top of that ice thats been falling for 2 hours.

hats off to NWS Blacksburg for calling the meso banding after 9pm. Sure enough it’s near Mount Airy and back building heavy snow along the escarpment. I really need Raleigh to pick up another 0.5” for the contest, it’s possible as the warm nose collapses from west to east. (Several 6” snow reports from Traphill west into Ashe County)

Moderate snow again. Going to probably end up with a shade over 2".

Just went for a quick walk. There is nothing quite like walking in the snow. It's uniquely quiet, except for the unmistakable crunch with each footfall. And the way it sparkles under the streetlights is a wondrous site to behold.

Went out to check on the ZR progress and this reminded me to appreciate that crunching sound. Love it

Wouldn't be shocked to see the ptype zones shift slightly back SE over the next few hours as we get a little more jet driven and a little less ripping waa
Also think this ends as a quick period of light snow for a lot around here in the morning

Yeah thinking we’ll end as sn/ip here in the wee hours

Moderate backside snow coming thru.

Let’s go! Was wanting a report from in that last Band. Won’t count on it, But I’m at 1/2” Snow 1/2” Sleet…. Prolly close to .2” ICE …. Would be nice to just get to that 2” Mark lol I would rate it a B- if I pulled 2” SN/IP and 1/4” ICE

Fv3 is most excited but the hrrr/nams have hinted at it. At this point I'm probably shooting for that and giving up on the rest of the evening
Still a good amount of precip back to our west as well, probably won’t end until what 3-4am
