I don't think Atlanta has had anything wintry other than maybe a few flurries or sleet pellets in almost 3 years.
2014 I believe

So in all seriousness how likely is a solution like this to actually happen?
It's possible, the last good winter event was in 2014. So, it's been a while since we had a major event.

Not sure what your criteria is for a good winter event is but the 2/16/15 icestorm that affected NC/NE GA was our biggest icestorm since 12/05.

I remember that one. The snowjam happened in Feb. of 2014, that's when ATL shut down. That's when you know it's major.

Actually it was 1/29/14 fwiw
[/quote]
I thought it was early Feb. But yeah, that date is correct. ATL particularly and other big cities across the SE hasn't seen a big event since 2014.

I got about a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of snow last Jan 23rd...2014-2015 winter, I had a few small dusting/ flurry events leading up to just barely missing out on the Feb 25th event.

Yeah, in January last year, we had about a half an inch where I live, and about 2 in the mountains. The last accumulation I had was a quick hitting system on March 3rd that put down about a quarter inch, but melted within an hour.

Seems like I say this every day but the 18z GFS once again doesn't disappoint.  These are some wild swings and probably not over either

That was a wild, highly localized event from a snow squall. Got a trace at my house near Northside Hospital while my brother a mile NW got an inch.

Boy, it is frustrating to see that Jefferson County Alabama is once again on the borderline of nothing but a cold rain. Maybe this storm will trend colder for my area.

You don't want to be in the bullseye this far out.  Plenty of time for things to change.

I recall Corey Tucker at TW doing his snow dance and getting a quick heavy snow squall the winter of 2015-6. Does anyone else recall this?

Yes, he was a dancing fool that day

You are correct! I just have nightmares of the February 2015 storm dumping record snows 20 miles to north while I watched a cold rain fall.  :(

Yes, I do. ? God bless him... he begged & begged for snow so much he got me tickled. Then he got some & almost fell out. I hope he finds this forum. Also the guy that decided to drive up to Tennessee & was snowed-in  in his hotel room but posted great pictures.  I enjoyed their posts. ?

this question is for SD preferably but anyone can answer it. What do you think about the s/w out in pacific? Will it come out properly or get sucked into the low in pacific and it ends up being northern stream dominance? Isnt that the key to if a system happens or not? Thanks kevin
It's the key. It's hard to say what happens with it.  The pattern with the closed ridge can favor it getting tucked under it and not ejecting. It's so touch and go it's a coin flip

A coin flip no doubt....  when you look at the energy in the  NW on the 12z compared to the 18z it's just amazing how one run it gets sucked in with one big ull over the pac and then on the 18z it almost looks like the s/w diving across AK acts as a kicker for our wave.  I can't tell why it does one thing one time and the other the next.  Crazy

???? I never knew what to expect from him...at first I thought he was punking us but then realized he was serious.  Baahahaha...?

And fwiw and not much I know since it's the long range NAM but it doesn't kick the energy out like the 18z gfs does....  be prepared peeps for some major ups and downs with this one over the next 48hrs.

The 18z GFS didn't shoot out the energy until after 100hr.

@84 on the GFS it is still intact and starting to move east on the NAM @84 it is completely absorbed into the ull just as the 12z GFS had it...  just another observation or note

We'll have to see what the 00z NAM says. It's only out to 036 hrs. But it's surly an interesting trend if NAM continues.
