I probably used the wrong words. I was aware of this eclipse happening in 2017 shortly after I moved to Tennessee in 2006. It was definitely something cool to experience in oneā€™s own backyard as so very little people in the world will ever actually experience it. It was also late summer and the bugs were buzzing loud before the eclipse so I didnā€™t notice that change in sound from night time bugs. My backyard is literally forest so itā€™s always loud in the summer.

i will echo the people that say to seek totality. i traveled from raleigh to south of gsp for 2017 and its really the type of thing everyone needs to see at least once in their life.

it's on a monday this year. i have a bachelor party in nola that weekend- i'm planning on renting a car, staying in shreveport sunday night, driving to rural arkansas to view it, then driving to memphis that evening to fly back to richmond.

i mean do you hear that sentence. i am renting a car hungover af to drive through louisiana to do this.

I mean we've had back to back winters be this bad before but I don't think we've ever had three

Seasonal forecasting is hardly more accurate than a coin flip.

Nobody ever expected the country to get flooded by endless Pacific air but it's happened before in some of the El Nino analogs so I mean shrugs

There was always a horrible analog here for this winter people just ignored it for the better ones šŸ¤£ in fact I remember how we followed it with a really cold Halloween and we never really unfollowed it

Like I said above too we've had back to back winters be this bad before the real question is next winter

The big thing is that weā€™ve got to hope that the Alaskan trough stops being so dominant in the winter. Like JB pointed out yesterday, it seems that no matter the background state were in, La NiƱa or El NiƱo, that just kills winter east of the Rockies. That was also the case in the early 90s as well.

Yup 91-92 was the bad analog here and it had been record cold at Halloween just like this yeaf and then poof for the most part. Hardly any snow that year too. It was always on the list this year with the snowier analogs but we never could get away from it and here we are...
